'Tis the Season

No! It is not the season. It’s never the season. Can christmas go die in a fire now?

Can you please stop automatically adding crap I do not want or need in any way? If you don’t know how to respect my data can you at least allow me to manage what shows on my stupid server?

Given the number of complaints that I see about this nonsense here on your forums it seems like you’d get the clue. It’s not fun. It’s not neat. It’s not cute. It’s invasive and annoying AF.

I see claims that it can be turned off:

  1. Settings → [Servername] → SettingsLibrary
  2. Show Advanced
  3. Show Curated Recommendations

No such toggle exists in my settings.

Second claim for how to turn this nonsense off:

“It will vanish from your home page if you disable ‘Manage Home Automatically’.”

I don’t see an option to disable that anywhere.

It’s my library. I curate it just fine on my own. I don’t want your nonsense annoying me. Please drop these “curated recommendations” into an active volcano. Thanks.

Don’t panic!

If you don’t like it…

  1. Settings > [Server Name] > Manage > Libraries
  2. Hover over your movie library and click Manage Recommendations
  3. Disable the Seasonal Movies option for the hubs where you don’t want to see it (e.g. Home and Library).

That actually fixed it. Thank you!

Like most new features that developers are enthusiastic about, it would be a better world if this was “opt in” rather than “opt out”.

Seriously, why can’t you implement something like this, don’t default it to “on” for every single plex user everywhere on earth, and then put it in a notification or write a big announcement on the plex home page if you’re really jazzed about it that invites people to give it a try if they are interested?

Obviously plex users are people who care about the look and feel. Most of them are curating and configuring their plex home screens with some hands-on care. Then suddenly there is something there on the home screen that they didn’t put there - and to add insult to injury, it’s not immediately obvious how to make it go away.

That’s really pretty disrespectful to users.

This is not a new feature. It’s been around since last Christmas so you’ve had a year to disable it.

Only half a year… last year you couldn’t actually disable the seasonal hub (IIRC). This was only added when Plex introduced the Manage Recommendations feature.
