Hey Guys -
Quick question, please…
I recently migrated my Plex Media Server installation from a Windows 10 to a Windows Server 2016 system because PMS was using too much CPU and it was on my primary workstation which I also use for work. The Windows 10 system stores all of the media which is now being accessed by the Windows Server 2016 PMS libraries through gigabit ethernet via a smart switch. I initially set the libraries up using mapped drives but plan to migrate to UNC paths soon.
Anyways, since the migration; it has taken drastically longer for media to start playback from any of my devices. The orange spinner lasts for 10 seconds on average where before I don’t think I even knew an orange spinner existed. I totally get that the media isn’t local anymore, but wouldn’t think the change would be that drastic with sych a good connection to it. The server PC does have a slightly lower CPU & RAM, but I don’t see a dip in resources on it when media starts playing. Finally, to note; there is little to no difference in startup for players that must transcode. In fact, ones that do can start a little faster I’ve noticed.
Any suggestions or potential fixes besides moving my media? The media is on a 12 disk pool so isn’t that easily done. I’ve looked through logs, but can’t see anything that sticks out.
Thanks!
