I asked TiVo customer support, and they claim this behavior is completely in Plex’s control.
The “Zoom” button on the TiVo remote toggles between three settings – from what I can tell, the setting is honored once within video playback on Plex – “Full” and “Zoom” stretch the video to fit the TV; whereas “Panel” keeps the original aspect ratio and includes letterboxing if needed.
Today, pushing the “Zoom” button causes the TiVo to leave Plex. This request is that the “Zoom” button would toggle the Zoom setting, as it normally does during video playback (not in Plex).
@mdb139 I just tried this. I was watching a movie that should have been letterboxed, but the Plex app on my Tivo cable box was stretching the movie to full screen. I hit the Zoom button on the Tivo remote, and as you stated, it kicked me out of Plex and back to the current channel. I went ahead and hit the Zoom button until it showed Panel as the current option, then pressed Select. I went back into the Plex app to resume the movie and it was now showing as letterbox instead of full.
I agree with you that it would be great to have the zoom take affect within the Plex app instead of kicking you out of the app altogether; but at least the zoom level is honored within the app once you go back in.
