Too many subtitles to choose from, how do i edit the xml file?

I have to many subtitles to choose from and the right Swedish subtitle is named unknown?

Can choose betwene:
none
English.srt
Unknown.srt (This is the correct swedish subtitle i have downloaded)
Swedish.srt (Dont know where this came from)
English.srt (another english subtitles)

Want to edit the xml file and delete some subtitles from it, how do i do?

If i push “Information of media” and then “Show xml” it says:
…/library/streams/2154793" streamType=“3” codec=“srt” language=“English” languageCode=“eng” format=“srt”/>
…/library/streams/2071351" streamType=“3” selected=“1” codec=“srt” format=“srt”/>
…/library/streams/2071353" streamType=“3” codec=“srt” language=“Svenska” languageCode=“swe”/>
…/library/streams/2071352" streamType=“3” codec=“srt” language=“English” languageCode=“eng”/>

But where is it located to edit?

Editing the XML will not help. That’s just a representation of what Plex sees, it won’t actually get rid of anything. Plus the XML will eventually get recreated. Subtitles are:
1 - embedded in the file (if you use mkv) so the only way to remove them is to remux your file without those subtitles
2 - they are sitting next to your video file and you just need to delete the ones you don’t like
3 - they were downloaded using Plex’s OpenSubtitle agent, in which case you can’t get rid of these
4 - You used another subtitle agent, then I have no idea

Note, with any of the above, the subtitles could also be packaged together in a file (PGS and idx/sub), in which case you cannot remove individual tracks without using a subtitle editing program.

If these are MKVs you can use MKVToolNix to remove the subtitles you don’t need… or rename the one that says unknown to whatever language you wish you can embed the subtitles into the MKV remove the ones you don’t want name the unknown one to Swedish

I would first use VLC to see which ones (tracks) I wanted to keep, they MKVMerge to remux the file with only the SRT’s that I wanted… also, at that point, you can change the language from Unknown to Swedish

And for mp4 files, use MP4Box to remove/edit subtitle tracks.

You can use MKVMerge on MP4’s as well

I’ve had issues with MKVMerge and MP4 files. I can’t remember the exact movie but MKVMerge was unable to see the subtitle track, just video and audio.

Plex automatically downloaded subs from OpenSubtitle agent that was synced wrong.
My own swedish swedish.srt is synced ok. When someone starts to play it it gets wrong subtitle everytime but if you manually force another it goes right but can i change “Unknown” in the menu to read “Swedish working” at least?

Yes. Name the file “Same name as Movie.swe.srt”.

As noted above, you need to use MKVMerge. Its super easy to use and allows you to clear out unwanted Subtitles and change the Unknown to SWD

The problem aint what i already have, the problem is what plex is downloading automatically…

This might be ‘fixed’ by setting your local media assets to top of the list.
I believe by doing this Plex will select your external subtitle before any online one.

Will try that, thanks for maby a possible sollution
