Plex is deleting manually downloaded subtitles

Hi, I need help to fix Plex to work with manually downloaded subtitles. I have manually downloaded subtitles for a show that otherwise Plex is not getting subtitles for. Every time I try to refresh the data for the season, so I can watch it with the subtitles on my AppleTV, Plex is deleting all the subtitles from the season’s directory. Is what I’m trying to do possible? How can I get Plex to use the subtitles I’ve manually added to the directory and not delete them? I have tried adding ‘.en’, ‘.eng’ to the srt file names, this is not helping; I do have ‘Local Media Assets’ checked and at the top of the list under Settings>Server>Agents>Shows

Thanks!

Plex has no function to selectively delete subtitle files.

Did you perhaps install SubZero? This one has such a feature. You might want to look into its settings dialog and ask in the support thread.

Sounds like you’re using SZ. You might want to disable this setting and/or name the subtitle files accordingly, so SZ doesn’t clean them up.

That setting will be disabled by default with the next SZ release, as people don’t seem to read the wiki.

Hi, yes, I am using SZ. Thanks for the link and help! This did help fix my problem of my srt files disappearing. I appreciate your help.

I spent a lot of time trying to get SZ to get the subtitles, I was even more confused once I was able to find them on subscene, as to why SZ was not grabbing them. I have gone into the settings and plug-in itself, browsing items, and trying to refresh and auto-find, but was never able to get it to grab any subtitles. I’m still very new to the whole (Plex) Media Server world, so I’m sorry my ignorance frustrates you and so many others, but I really do prefer to solve my own problems, but I also ask and seek help from the experts as I struggle to learn myself.

After adjusting the SZ setting you referred me to, I was still unable to get PMS to detect my external srts. After reviewing a folder that PMS+subtitles is working normally, I determined the srt file name had to match, identically with the media file name (with the exception of ‘.en’). Once I corrected this for all the episodes, I now, FINALLY, have accomplished getting PMS to detect and use the subtitle srt files I manually downloaded…!!!
