Top Gear Specials Won't Show Up

Server Version#: 1.16.1.1291

Hi,

Does anyone else have issues with getting Top Gear Specials to show up?

I have my folder structured as:

TV Shows/Top Gear/ Season 0/Top Gear S00E68
(This should be the patagonia special pt 1 based off of TheTVDB)

Other naming options I have tried:

TV Shows/Top Gear (2002) / Season 0/Top Gear S00E68
TV Shows/Top Gear (2002) / Season 0/Top Gear (2002) S00E68
TV Shows/Top Gear/ Season 0/Top Gear.S00E68
TV Shows/Top Gear/ Season 0/Top-Gear-S00E68

All of these options do not work, the ‘normal’ seasons do however work such as :

TV Shows/Top Gear/ Season 1/Top Gear S01E01

I have also tried clearing cache, and doing the ‘plex dance’. All of these options do not work for me either. Sonarr also will not pick up these specials but picks up the normal episodes as well, so I am not sure where the issue is. If anyone is able to successfully name the Top Gear specials I would love to know.

dunno if it helps, but I have mine named liked this:

Top Gear
-- Specials
---- Top Gear - s00e82 - From A-Z Part 1.mp4
---- Top Gear - s00e83 - From A-Z Part 2.mp4

I tried your exact same naming scheme and it would not pick it up. Thanks for you input though.

Once scanned, any media renamed while in a Plex-monitored area will not be redetected.

You must “dance” it. (move out, scan, empty trash, clean bundles, move back, scan)

In my usage, . is the delimiter between Name-Episode-Title

Edit: Specials go in a Season 0 or Specials directory/folder.

Thanks for the input, based on your instructions what I did was:

  1. Made new folder “temp”
  2. Moved my top gear data into “temp” and out of “Top Gear”
  3. Deleted Top Gear Folder
  4. Re-Scanned, emptied trash, clean bundles
  5. Created a new “Top Gear” folder and moved back my data from temp
  6. Re-Scanned

I still have the same issue that the normal seasons come up, but specials do not. Please let me know if this is not what you meant or anything else I should try.

Are you certain it was moved to an unmonitored area?

Sorry, I did not do that the first time. It was still in a monitored area. I will try again with a folder outside of the TV Show folder and get back to you.

Okay I moved it into an unmonitored share and repeated the steps before and still only season 1 shows up for me.

Your naming structure mimmicks this?

tv2/Star Trek Enterprise/Season 00:
Star Trek Enterprise - S00E101 - Admiral Forrest Takes Centre Stage.mkv
Star Trek Enterprise - S00E102 - Cast Impressions.mkv
Star Trek Enterprise - S00E103 - Celebrating Star Trek.mkv
Star Trek Enterprise - S00E104 - Creating Enterprise.mkv
Star Trek Enterprise - S00E105 - Enterprise Outtakes.mkv
Star Trek Enterprise - S00E106 - Enterprise Secrets.mkv
Star Trek Enterprise - S00E107 - Inside Shuttlepod One.mkv
Star Trek Enterprise - S00E108 - NX-01 File 01.mkv
Star Trek Enterprise - S00E109 - NX-01 File 02.mkv
Star Trek Enterprise - S00E110 - NX-01 File 03.mkv

E1xx = Season 1 specials
E2xx = Season 2 specials

So I am going off of this,

https://www.thetvdb.com/series/top-gear/seasons/0

I don’t know if the specials are from a specific season so I do not know how I would name it like the way you described.

Season 0 naming , particularly Episode number assignment is entirely your preference.
I used 3-digit notation because each season had specials. It was logical to me for the lead digit to signify the season it is from

Okay I see, yeah so I think my naming:

TV Shows/Top Gear/ Season 0/Top Gear S00E68

Should be okay. Maybe I will try to make a plex test sever to see if its an issue specific to my server later.

TV Shows/Top Gear/Season 0/Top Gear - S00E68 - Optional Title here.ext

Is textbook perfect.

This worked! For some reason I think that the title/extension is not optional (maybe specifically for specials)?

For future reference I tried a variety of naming and the follow did not work for me:

Top Gear - S00E68
Top Gear - S00E68 - Patagonia Special (1)

The one that did work:

Top Gear - S00E68 - Patagonia Special (1).mkv

Thank you so much for your help Chuck! I spent way too long trying to figure this one out and your help is very much appreciated.

I use FileBot for all my naming needs. It even finds and names the specials.

IMHO, it is a requirement for anyone curating media regardless the media system. Everything is verified, named, and then moved into perfect position, creating new and deleting old empties as it does.

My naming rule is very simple:

/nas/tv/{n}/Season {s.pad(2)}/{n} - {s00e00} - {t}
