Top <n> Artist Popular Track(s) Smart Playlist / Filter

I’ve searched through a bunch of the popular track request threads and they seem to be missing this particular detail.

Say you have 50 artists in your library and each artist has a list of popular tracks identified using last.fm. I’d love to be able to create a smart playlist that would select the TOP 1 popular track from each of the 50 artists. So in total the smart playlist would only have 50 tracks.
(of course I’m assuming all 50 artists actually have at least one popular track)

If things got even crazier and TOP <1> was a variable and you selected “2” then the smart playlist would have 100 tracks in it. (50 artists x 2 tracks from each artist)

Now if we turned this all the way up to 11, we would also be able to add any of the other current filters to this same playlist.

Yes, I could go through 50 artist’s and select the top popular track from each and make it 5 stars to achieve the same result. But isn’t this the kind of thing computers are really good at? Maybe you have 5000 artists…

you’re essentially describing exactly how library radio and the other stations work (but TOP x per album and some extra magic).

I agree with the above, having the ability to choose the criteria to create any playlist would be fundamental. The information is already available, why would it not be selectable when creating a playlist. The above ( FilFlix) description is pointing out the omission of Top Artist songs data point. Manually using the rating stars isn’t the same as the Top Song by an artist that is populated automatically.
The 2nd point to turn it up to “11”, seems to be a simple logic tree… if then that. ( I understand what you do to create is not simple, inferring a logic tree is simple )

Just my 2 cents
