Issue Summary: Plex pass trailer function breaks ability to select an encode version of movies that are stacked with multiple versions.
Players:
PHT: Latest
PMP: Latest
OpenPHT: latest
IOS: app latest
Server : multiple OSX and Linux versions… seems systemic to them all
In sum, with play trailers selected on both the server side and client side
Select via IOS app to play a version of a movie that has multiple encode options, the selection is ignored, and the lower bitstream version is played.
Cant Select on the media player app at all, I.E. if you hit play on PHT or openPHT it does not come back with a window to ask which version/bitrate/size as when off
On the PMP the option is also not presented, only play and/or the resume from /start beginning option is the file is already in a watched mode.
Turning off the trailers feature fixes the issue across the board.
All media clients when seleting play will give the correct option to select a version and honor it
Selecting from the ios app via the 3 dots button to select a version seems to be honored more than not but further testing needed to confirm
But for certain this is a bug
Bump… anyone taking a look at this
Bueler… Bueler… is this mic on… ?
guess we are going to ignore yet another issue… good job plex… keep asking for your public quality assurance effot to report issues and keep ignoring them… leads to a great product…
This has now been confirmed by other users… and I want plex to acknowledge the issue…
With trailers on… plex will not sent the correct movie stream requested.
The only way to request a version of the movie with trailers on is the ios app as a remote using the “…” button and selecting play version… then selecting a bitrate which is then ignored (BROKEN). You are not presented with the choice any longer directly on the players interface either if trailers are on PHT or PMP inclusive as further explained here…:
Trailers set to OFF/0 on a client
seletecing a version using PMP / PHT gui … pmp will put up a query window after pressing play if a movie has multiple versions available when Trailers are set to OFF on that client…
PMP essentially the same although there is a separate play button in PMP with added functionality one of which is stream selection
With trailers ON
openPHT no longer will query for which version to play, it starts playing trailers then preroll then the movie. Using the GUI presents no options… if using the IOS remote connected to that client… it will allow my to select a version with the “…” button but it will ignore it… usually playing the lower bitrate file even though the client can direct stream and its on the same network with no restrictions set…
PMP is the same… the GUI no longer offers a choice, if you select play it goes right into trailers then the move… no chioce offered and you get what you get…
Of course the IOS remote itself is now broken in 4.4.1… that is in another post (several actually) that is equally being ignored…
Going to continue to bump til a dev weighs in…
Can you provide logs from PMS and the iOS app after trying to cast the video?
@MovieFan.Plex
I will provide logs once you tell me that you have tested this yourself and cant duplicate the issue…
Its bad enough we do your quality control for you while I pay for your services the least you can do is meet me half way…
@MovieFan.Plex
You will need the following for the test… i will spoon feed you
A movie file that has been encoded in 2 different bitrates added to the same library so they ‘stack’
The ios app to act as a remote for the following players (oh yeah… forgot you just broke that feature so find someone still running 4.4 to test it)
Preferably openpht and PMP embedded on pi. Although it appears to malfunction regardless of the player as I also use the above on my mac as well
Test sequence
Without trailers selected in the player
Using both the ios remote and on the players interface, play the movie and verify that you can select a certain bitrate of the movie and that it honors and plays the correct stream… both of them
Then turn on trailers 1, 2 doesnt matter
Repeat both trying to cue up the play via ios remote and via the PMP/PHT interface … on IOS you will be able to choose a version but it wont honor it… and the interfaces for the player wont give a choice any longer just wont present the dialog…
If you completed the test plan and cant duplicate we will talk about me providing more from my end
Since others are now confirming this I am pretty sure you are going to find this yourself just nobody cared to look too carefully
I’m in support, not QA so I don’t know what testing was done. However, you are talking about casting to PHT (no longer supported), PMP (still in Beta), and Open PHT (3rd party).
I don’t have an iOS device, but using my Android device, I am not able to recreate the problem when casting to PMP. From your iOS and PMS logs, I can check if they are talking the same as when I use Android. This could also be related to the 4.4.1 update for the iOS app, which I’ve seen you are having other issues with.
@MovieFan.Plex
Forward it to the devs… I am not dealing with a ‘call center’ guy
And plex better fix its attitude towards openPHT and PMP
This was sold as a HOME THEATER movie server … not an android platform
Many of us out here that pay the bills as plex pass CUSTOMERS use a big screen so you better get off your collective backsides and come up with a front end you don’t have EXCUSES for ever time we turn around
This wasn’t working under 4.4 either
So you are telling me that you went into PMP and with trailers turned on you were able to select from a STACKED movie 2 diffferent streams and it ACTUALLY played the correct stream after the trailer played…
Like if there was a 1080 encode and a 720 encode of the same title in the same library with only one thumbnail for it…
I am not even talking about using the remote to do it… its not even working directly on the interface…
Again… send it to the devs … just wasting time with you
No problem. I’ve informed the iOS team.
FYI - Even if the devs can reproduce your issue, they may still want your logs to confirm it’s the same issue they see.
Its not an IOS problem … it is involved as it also doesnt command it
But this is likely a problem with how the backend generates the playlist and / or how the player client PMP/PHT requests the movie file when trailers are active on the client… again … pass it on to the right folks…
And pass on the broken remote issue to both the PMP and IOS teams so they can pull their collective heads out of their you know what…
I can not confirm this bug using Tizen (samsung) client, Android TV (nexus player) or Android (phone). I CAN confirm this bug using OpenPHT, but that doesn’t mean much since it’s a 3rd party app and not the Plex’s teams problem.
