Trailers before film playback link to film suggestions

Hi there,
I’m not sure whether this is something already in place but I’m a little anxious about enabling trailers prior to film playback because I can’t say what trailers will play. I have a library of appx 3000 films and I’ve added trailers and I’m sure this puts me in a niche but I’m concerned that if I enable this for the family that entirely random trailers will play which could be inappropriate: eg going to put on Mr Bean to watch and find yourself watching a trailer for Death Wish. I notice there’s a suggestion function that selects films similar to the one you have picked to watch and I wondered if that could link to the selection for trailer playback. I am aware that I can limit what libraries/rating of content users can see but I don’t think that’s the right way to manage it.
I also create folders for upcoming films and add trailers in there but as there is no corresponding movie file I’m not sure whether those would be selected for playback. It would be nice to have a slot that shows upcoming films, again, that are appropriate for the move selected. I hope this makes sense.

I have checked the trailers before the movie starts and can’t seem to get it to work. How did you configure yours to work? This is one of the reasons I signed up for Plex Pass.

Rutski…I’d like to know also.

leo_1963…I’m with you there.

Don’t quote me on this, but I think Plex will obey a rating tag if you can make any sense out of this:

The best way to deal with the restricting of young eyeballs is by creating Plex.tv accounts for those eyeballs and sharing select content with them via this rating system - if you can figure it out.

Of course, the best way to deal with Trailers and Extras is by curating them yourself and placing them manually and correctly, but if you can figure out the auto-method and make it happen - super.

I got trailers to work by manually adding them to the folder for each film. I did it one at a time to start with and then realised how much of a time sink it was and tasked ember media manager with the job instead. So long as the file ends in -trailer Plex can identify it as a trailer file.

For example
Folder: A Scanner Darkly (2006)
Film: A Scanner Darkly (2006).mp4
Trailer: A Scanner Darkly (2006)-trailer.mp4

When Plex scans this folder it will see the film and the trailer, you would be able to select the movie and see a film reel icon down the left hand side (this is on the FireTV app). The trailer would also be visible if you select the extras icon - a triangle of circles, that would show any extras you have stored in the film folder and that would include trailers.
Anything identified as a trailer here would potentially play if you selected to play trailers before a feature in Plex
