Trailers for tv-shows

I would like to request trailers for tv-shows. like movies has now (the automatic way)
or, if not possible. atleast a way of manually adding them.

Actually, there are trailers for TV shows. Some. Most don’t have anything.

Unfortunately, the only way you actually see that there are trailers or extras is to go to the actual “Show” page. They won’t show up anywhere else. So, if you are using Plex the way that most people probably do, just clicking on a “Recently Added” episode or “On Deck” won’t give you any indication there is a trailer.

Also, as far as I can tell, there’s no such thing as a “Season Trailer” or “extras” like behind the scenes, for individual episodes. It can be argued that trailers for tv shows has been implemented, but not in a way that is in the least functional.

well thats not true in my case.
i dont have a single trailer for any of my shows (around 100).

so it would be great if they could add trailers for tv-shows in the same way they do for movies.
they way you say you get some trailers. at the tv shows actual show page.

I did say “some”

I probably only have trailers for a handful out of about 600 TV shows. Because of the way it’s implemented, I consider it non-existent, because the average user doesn’t usually navigate to the main page for a TV series.

Is say the averege user do browse to the show page if they haven’t seen the show yet. And wants to read about it. And id say that’s when they want to see the trailer.

And of course every new season.

So I’d say have the first trailer at show page (and season 1 page) and then add season 2 trailer to season 2 page and so on…

I’m not disagreeing with anything you say about how they should be implemented. It’s poor at best right now, and as you see, we don’t get many.

Personally, I never go to the home page for a TV series, unless there’s a specific reason, such as re-watching a series from the beginning. I navigate from the home page on the apps, which basically show the latest episodes added in “Recently Added” or from “on Deck”. In neither case, the home page is several clicks away. But I may be unique in that way, perhaps most people pop over to the TV series home page regularly.

Agree - this is one thing that Netflix does really well in terms of UX/UI for how they manage trailer content. So there are two parts to this - 1. Better support for scraping trailers from online sources (vs having local assets), and 2. Better use / integration of how trailers are viewed (e.g. using the Netflix experience as an example). I had a play around with Kodi last night with the release of V18, and the Titan Bingie Skin + associated scrappers/services have done a good job in finding and integrating. - For reference: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=334820

don’t get it why some people have trailers for series and others not … i have a couple hundred but not a single one of them has trailers O_o

for me, not even manually downloaded trailers are recognized

using TVDB as agent

It’s not even necessarily trailers… for Friends I get e.g. a bunch of DVD ads (in pre-DVD resolution).
Local Media Assets however should not be included/displayed at all (unless you’re using an alternative agent; the default agent ignores all LMAs for TV shows… there’s a dedicated feature request to allow those)

requested since 2015. makes me sad

Lets hope that the Plex team are working on an automatic playing trailer right now, due to the CORONA VIRUS working from home situation.

It would be the best thing they can do, to upgrade the experience of any user, newcomers and us.

Hope they understand the potential and the importance of the UI experience.

It’s 2020 People are watching and producing more TV shows than ever and this feature is still not there - or does not work either way - there are sooooo manny tv shows now that it would be really a great thing to have trailers to just remind yourself what was this show about again.

Thank you!!

Can anyone from Plex comment on the possibility of TV show trailers being implemented anytime soon? Would very much appreciate having this on my server.

Thanks!

What the… I downloaded FHD trailers for each TV show.
I bought PLEX premium last week and thought that adding trailers in TV shows will surely be available…
When will PLEX add this feature?
I’m sick of waiting…

I’d like to see this as well, much like you can add a pre-roll video for the movies database, I’d also love to add the pre-roll before TV shows as well. I have a 20 seconds pre-roll video I have set so when I have family or friends watch from my server it plays this awesome intro for “my server” and I was hoping it would also work for TV-Shows but it does not :frowning:

Trying to wrap this thread up (after some months).

  1. Plex does support online trailers for tv shows… however as pointed out by leelynds the don’t come for all shows and are not easily accessible in all clients

  2. There’s a very popular feature suggestion to officially support local extras (including trailers) for tv-shows, seasons and episodes…
Making this kind of a duplicate request… tempting me to close it in order to consolidate the votes/comments centrally.
    → Implemented with PMS 1.22.0 (new tv-show scanner/agent beta)
TV Series DVD Special Features / Extras (Behind The Scenes, Interviews, Trailers etc..)

  3. The last post mentions support for pre-rolls to be allowed for tv-show libraries… that feature suggestion also exists
[Feature Request] Pre-Rolls for TV Shows, and better options

Edit: updated reference to now implemented local extras

Early 2021 clean-up: see above

  1. implemented
  2. implemented
  3. duplicate
