Transcode on start of movie have to manually switch to direct play

When I start a movie in a MKV container the player via my apple TV states that its transcoding due to the combination of HTTP protocol, MKV container and H265 format not being available. However if I manually change the quality to another setting and then back to original quality it set its to direct play.

Is this normal or am I missing something in the way I am setup?

Im using:

NAS: DS918+
Apple TV 4k
Samsung TV

The NAS is connected directly to my modem via Ethernet as is the apple TV. The Apple TV and Samsung TV are connected via wireless.

I seem to get better MBS when using direct stream so I’d rather it use that setting by default.
