Hi, this error has been driving me nuts for a few weeks now, any input would be appreciated.
When playing back certain files, I’ll receive the error “Conversion Failed. The transcoder exited due to an error”. It’s not all files. and the files affected are still standard .MP4 format with AC3 or AAC Audio, but are being played in Plex for the first time. They work just fine outside of Plex.
I’ve tried the following troubleshooting steps (this is a non-comprehensive list, I’ve probably forgotten a few things I’ve attempted):
- I only use .SRT subtitles. I’ve tried disabling subtitles with no luck
- Subtitles are set to never burn in
- remote play is fully enabled. This is happening on remote devices, as well as on my local network. Playback on a PS5 (local), firestick (remote, but with direct play enabled), apple TV (remote, but with direct play enabled) all have the same result with playback.
- I’ve tried disabling hardware accelleration
- I’ve tried renaming the cache folder to force a new one to be created
- I’ve tried renaming the codec folder to force a new one to be created
- QNAP firmware is fully updated
I can recreate the issue because it always occurs at the same timestamp - when I look at the console tab on my PC, these are the lines that are flagged when the error occurs:

It cycles through a number of these errors until this message:
