Transcoding (I think) errors - HELP!

Hi,
OK, firstly, I wasn’t sure which forum would be the best for this, please advise if I need to move!

I recently re-built my UnRaid server and everything has been working fine, until last night! As far as I am aware, nothing has changed (unless something has auto-updated without my knowledge?

My configuration:-
Unraid 6.5.0 - HP Proliant DL380G7. 80Gb RAM, 16 Cores. 14 disks in the array, for a total of 11.6TB with 1.31 Free. Cache drive 240Gb SSD with 236Gb free. 1000Mb LAN.
PlexMediaServer running in Docker from the plexinc/pms-docker repository. Web UI indicates V3.39.5
Roku Premier + running Plex Application V5.1 Build 5
iPhone 8
Samsung SMART TV
Windows 10 PC

All of this is with the same program / episode:

If I try to play media on the SMART TV, it works ok.
If I try to play media on the Roku, I get “Unknown Netwrok Error. Playback has stopped due to multiple playback errors. Please check your connection and try again.”
If I try to play media on the iPhone, I get “Playback was terminated by server. Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error.”
If I try to play media on the Windows 10 PC using the app, I get “Session terminated by server. Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error.” Then another episode of the show plays (I tried Episode1, it played episode 3!) I also tried to play this episode on the other devices, got the same errors I did with Episode 1.
If I try to play media on the Windows 10 PC using the Web UI, I get the spinner. Forever.

I tried a suggestions I found including:
Switching off Secure connections - No help
Changing the playback on the Roku to Direct Play = Force - The video now plays, but I lose all audio.
Rebooting everything - No help

Happy to upload whatever logs you think would help, just let me know where to get them from!

HELP!

I have the same issue. I anything that is EAC won’t play after a while.

Sorry to appear stupid, EAC?

it is an audio codec. I don’t have a fix though.

Oh! Yeah, that would make sense. Good to know I’m not alone in this!

Anyone else have any comments, or preferably, a solution?

one thing that may have worked so far is changing /transcode and /tmp inside the container to point to /tmp on the outside. I also disabled the auto monitor library function to remove any issues with inotify limit.

Hi, I’m having a similar issue. I was just about to create a post about it, as I’m struggling to find an answer. For me though, I’ve moved my /config from OS drive to Data drive as I’m low on OS disk space, and that’s when video files stop working. Strangely, they seem to have worked once or twice so I don’t know if they were flukes or not.

I’ve also changed /transcode to /tmp and I can see the sessions being created there, but no files? The only thing I see in the logs, is some 404 errors but it means nothing to me:

Apr 18, 2018 08:26:00.238 [0x7f84b53fe700] DEBUG - Completed: [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:58106] 404
GET /video/:/transcode/universal/dash/7msb1ixpbdj7tbdf801568mc/0/0.m4s (10 live) TLS GZIP 0ms 452 bytes (pipelined: 3)

Is this just a big no no?

Thanks for the suggestions, thoughts and comments, everyone!

So, I looked at my config and discovered that the /transcode Docker path wasn’t pointing to a valid location. I corrected this, but it still wasn’t working properly. I figure that when I rebuilt my array, something go lost in translation. So I…

  1. Removed the Plex Docker container.
  2. Deleted all PlaexMediaServer information from appData and anywhere else I could find it. (I didn’t touch the Media!)
  3. Re-installed the PlexMediaServer Docker (I used the “Official” one from PlexInc.)
  4. Re-configured PlexMediaServer using the Web UI (Basically, re-added the TV and Movies libraries)

It now works!!!

Of course, I lost all the viewing history so now I have to figure out how far through the various shows I got, but that’s a small price to pay to get it back.

I hope my experience can help others to similarly troubleshoot.

Ugh, I’m having the same issue. Does anyone know of a way to fix it without nuking the entire application directory? Or at least a way to preserve the watch history specifically, since that’s all I really care about.

I’m still struggling with various things… but I noticed that EAC (possibly others - I’ve been testing with EAC) transcoding fails when I have any hint of extras going on. Once I disabled all trailers (in the app’s settings, the library’s settings, and the server->extras settings) AND restarted the container… transcoding then worked. And so far, it seems reliable. The moment I bring back any trailers at all (even if the app is set to trailers but the server isn’t) then trouble starts again.

@YTilis there is a way to migrate just the view states from one server to another through an SQLite command. I tried it with success. Here’s the article: https://support.plex.tv/articles/201154527-move-viewstate-ratings-from-one-install-to-another/
