Transcoding mp3 is useless

hi all! Im new here, glad to meet everyone! If someone can help, im banging my head for days now…please!

i have linux mint, samsung s7 with android 8.
Problem is, i want to transcode mp3 into the android app to a much lower bitrate(for data usage reasons), but theres is no way. I lowered the setting in the app settings to minimum, and set the transcoding option in web server ui. Source changes in app to transcode, but in server theres is no transcode process, so it makes me think that transcoding is done in android. Also, the data usage is big so, maybe im stupid, or maybe the transcoding of mp3 is done in client side wich makes the whole process useless…

There is some confusion on how that setting works for music. Check out Tried setting Plex Android to transcode at 320 and 192, but shows in app at 128 for a discussion on the issue. That should answer your question.

ty 4 the reply, but i already set the always low under data in the android app, i still get gigantic sizes, so its not working.
edit:
i’ve read in another thread that theres is a bug regarding this in the android app, maybe its no solved yet?
also, this is the only reason im interested in plex so, its kind of dissapointing…

It should be working now. There is still a small bug that it doesn’t appear to lower the quality even more when using cellular, but it should still be transcoding down to 128 kbps. If not, please recreate and provide me the log from the app.
