Transcoding no longer working with Windows

Yes, I did make sure to try that. I was getting the same results.

Which of your servers is this?
The one on Windows 10, or the one in WSL?

Did you update the server again, afterwards?

It’s the window 10 server. That WSL one is actually getting wound down once I feel like I have this transcoding thing fixed.
I have not upgraded back to the beta release yet. I can try it and check it if you would like me to.

FYI, here is another user who had the same issue with the beta HW transcoding not working - #3 by Iverke

If you eventually update again, please

  • enable “debug logging” on your server. (stop and restart server after changing the setting)
    DON’T enable “verbose” logging
  • enable debug logging in the web app as well.
  • recreate the issue
  • immediately fetch logs both from the web app and the server

I tried 2 of the 1.41.4.XXXX beta releases. These are the logs for one of them.
I tried playing in the desktop app & web browser.

Symptoms seem slightly different for me now, on both beta versions. When i force a transcode the video seems to reset to the original speed on both the web & desktop app.
maybe different because of a new webapp update.
I’m guessing the transcode fails/crashes & resets, not sure.

I rolled back to the public 1.41.3.XXXX release and hw transcoding works immediatly. The video doesnt reset to original quality on this version.

As you can see in my own thread linked above i have/had the same “The hardware pixel format ‘yuv420p’ is not supported by the device type ‘QSV’” error.

No changes on the server between tests.

Could you add the web app logs as well?
(after recreating the issue)

I don’t suppose you can also attach the log of it working? it may help highlight the change that caused this

I just forced hw transcoding on my phone, and attached logs.

I’ll try and attach the web app logs tomorrow if I find the time.
I’m not near my pc atm.

Here are logs from my end. I installed the just released beta version. Transcoding failed again right away. Rolled back to latest public build and it started working fine right away. Let me know if I can do anything else to help.

are either of you willing to try some transcoder commands?

Sure, let me know what you need. I might not be able to do them until tomorrow afternoon though.

Does the latest beta address this issue?

I just tried it on my setup, doesnt seem to fix it for me. Still no hw transcoding.

Weird thing is that in a web browser/player my forced lower quality seems to reset.
I tried it from the android app and quality selection seems to work, but still no hw transcoding.

Rolled back to 1.41.3 and everything works as expected. including selecting lower quality in web browser/player & hw transcoding to h264 & HEVC.

logs attached below

I know this isn’t helpful at all, but I’ll provide the feedback either way. This weekend I installed an Arc A310, since even if this bug was fixed, I was going to be lacking in the HEVC transcoding department. It is working fine on this new beta. Not sure if it would have had the issue on the old one though.

Looks like it is still an issue for @Iverke, if you get to the point where you think its addressed and want me to pull the new card and re-enable the iGPU and give it a test let me know.

@Iverke is the only user so far to still be having issues. I am unsure what the issue is with his card but it has addressed the issue with many others. no need to pull your card.

I saw 1 user on reddit that claimed it wasnt working for him either after the update. Just FYI. When I have time to do a little more troubleshooting, I’ll reinstall the beta and do some more testing.

@Iverke are you willing to run some command line tests for me?

Sure, no problem.

I’m also having this issue - I believe I may be the other user from Reddit that Iverke is talking about.

Set up:

Edition Windows 10 Pro
Version 22H2
Installed on ‎3/‎23/‎2022
OS build 19045.5487
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19061.1000.0

PMS Version 1.41.4.9463
i5-10400
Intel UHD Graphics 630
Intel Driver version both 31.0.101.2111 and updated to 31.0.101.2134

Tried different combinations of disabled/enabling any and all HW/HEVC encoding and transcoding options and setting them back to how they were previously along with multiple reboots - HW Transcoding never starts

Let me know if I need to try anything or provide anything!
Thank you!

Same issue, nearly same setup. Only difference is that I have the latest windows 11.
