Transcoding (nvidia) starts, then is deleted by a process, then getting 404 messages in the web console

Hi there,

I have tried many solutions for this, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what it is…

I am running UNRAID, and have ported to a new server. I have eventually reinstalled, thinking this was an issue with the database.

I have rebuilt this from the latest linuxserver image for plex.

When I play a movie, then purposefully switch to the transcoder it does not work, it 404’s as the files are not longer there.

I can see in the logs that the transcode is sent a termination signal as is killed with -9. Then it tries to continue to look for the files to be served.

The only way to stop this, is to slow down that process by enabling subtitles after selecting the lower resolution to transcode to.

This is the only way to get the transcoder working correctly…

If I use CPU transcoding, it works perfectly fine.

I have tried downgrading to lower nvidia drivers, suspecting that was the issue, and also downgrading PMS. This hasn’t worked so far, no combination I use works.

The 404’s are on all 3 sides, my domain, my internal IP address, and my plex.direct address.

Unless I slow down the process of killing the transcoder, nothing starts to transcode.

I can see the process start in the nvidia-smi and then it dies just as quick as it appears.

I’m hoping someone from support can view these logs and come to some conclusion about what is going on…

Plex Media Server.log (4.7 MB)

Here is the log attached.

I have more displaying the issue as well, but this is a snippet of it not working, 404ing and it working by fooling around with the subtitles.

Bumping, as I still need support with this…

Anything?

It has to do with the way you connect to the server. If you use a local fqdn, for example myplex.lan then plex thinks it is not local and stops the transcoding.

If you use your server’s ip address to connect to plex then you’ll see that the hw transcoding continues.

Plex has the most convoluted networking I’ve ever seen in an application.
