Video is now being transcoded where it wasn’t before, but only with some blurays rips. Just switching audio tracks makes the video transcode.
All my 4k rips still direct play ok.
The other thing I’ve noticed since the upgrade is that the TV (its a 2016 UHD KS8000) on some bluray rips says the video is being transcoded. when in fact the server is using direct play. See attached photos → TV shows Can Direct Stream video → FALSE!
For me it’s only started since 4.19.2, but as I sign out of my Samsung account they don’t auto update so I’m totally confident this version has caused an issue. As it’s now transcoding video when it shouldn’t it’s totally possible the issues listed in those threads are related, if your Plex server hasn’t got the power to transcode the file your get buffering and all sorts. It may start ok, then some one else in the house starts another stream so more transcoding the server can’t cope. My server can’t transcode 4K video in real-time, so currently I can’t watch 4K content unless it has compatible audio as it tries to transcode, that just displays buffering and nothing happens, that is listed on another thread also.
On my side with the latest update : 1.18.6.2368 AND Ubuntu upgrade of my Nvidia GPU
we see less issues… Still exists but less impacting than the last few weeks!
Just did a few more tests of blu ray discs, again, some work as they should others don’t. I can’t explain the difference between files that work and ones that don’t, but it’ definitely never transcodes both if the audio can be played natively. The two files I included above still produce the same results, can you not examine those to find out the difference?
