Transcoding problems

Hello Plex Community,

I’m encountering a peculiar issue with hardware transcoding on my Plex server. It works perfectly fine on my Android phone and Android TV, but when I try to play media using the Plex Windows app on my Windows 11 PC, hardware transcoding seems to fail.

My Plex Media Server is running inside a Proxmox VM (Ubuntu 24.04) with a dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P1000 passed through. I’m unsure why hardware transcoding would work on some clients but not the Windows app.

Here’s my server and player information:

  • Server Version: 1.41.6.9685
  • Player Version (Windows): 1.108.1.307-dd5b87aa

Things I’ve already checked/tried:

  • Confirmed that hardware acceleration is enabled in the Plex Media Server settings.
  • Verified that the NVIDIA drivers are installed correctly within the Ubuntu VM.
  • Ensured the Quadro P1000 is successfully passed through to the VM in Proxmox.
  • Restarted both the Plex Media Server and my Windows PC.

I’m not seeing any obvious errors in the initial server logs related to the GPU. Could there be a specific setting or compatibility issue with the Windows Plex app that I’m missing?

Any insights or suggestions on how to troubleshoot this further would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if you need any more information or logs.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Sounds very similar to the behavior I’ve seen here: Transcoding in Chrome appears broken in latest version

Does it also show up for you in a browser?
