Hi everyone!
I have an annoying issue with my new Plex Server on my new laptop. I am posting in General Discussion as I am not really sure where it comes from.
For several months, I have used Plex with my desktop computer acting as server and watching content on the PS4 app. There is absolutely no issue with this one.
One week ago, I got a new laptop with an i7-7700HQ and 12 GB of memory, that I plan on using as a substitute server as I will be away for a year for a formation. So I copied my media content on an external HDD, connected to my laptop via USB 3.0. I installed Plex and created a new server on my account and copied the metadata to keep my libraries. No problem until that point.
Now, when I try to play a movie or TV show from the PS4 app, it plays fine during a few minutes, but at some point, transcoding stops and I end up with this error message : “There was a problem playing this item. The video did not start playing in time.”. I attached the log of my last attempt.
I checked the transcoding speed with Verbose and it was always superior to 1. The CPU usage never reaches 100% and the last attempt maximum was 76%. Also, according to the web app, the transcoder throttled. So it doesn’t seem to come from the CPU.
I tried with my antivirus (Kaspersky) disabled with no change. Same thing after doing a new clean install with just a few video files (no metadata copy). Same thing again with files on the internal HDD. Same result with a wifi or wired connection.
I tried using the web app on my desktop computer and it worked fine during one hour before I stop myself. For testing, I also set up a Universal Media Server and it seems to work fine with the PS4 media player. So the issue seems to be related to the PS4 app, even though it works fine with my desktop server…
I’d like any help to resolve this issue and would thank you for that.
