Transcoded playback stops after ~7 minutes

Server Version#: 1.32.3.7192 — Ubuntu Server LTS22.04 running in a Proxmox VM with 6 cores/10GB RAM and passed-through Intel iGPU; host CPU is Intel i3-10100 8-core @ 3.6GHz

(There are similar topics going back years, but no resolutions. ¯_(ツ)_/¯)

Finally got this server configured with pass-through of the internal GPU. All seems well, except for random stopping after about 7 minutes when playing 4K content transcoding to 1080p (20Mbps). I avoid this particular kind of transcoding, but it was a useful test.

After 6.5–7.5 minutes of uneventful playback, playback stops and I’m back at the title screen as if I had pressed stop. All the time, bandwidth usage is stable, CPU usage is low and stable. I can immediately resume playback, and it works just fine, although it defaults to full rate playback and I have to reselect transcoding.

I’ve tried three different 4K titles. Same for each.

Is this a software bug or configuration issue? Or do I just need a beefier server?

Also, tried some other transcoding (eg, 1080p to 720p) and it wouldn’t work at all with hardware transcoding on. Just got a blank screen. Turn it off, everything is fine (but CPU usage high). ¯\(ツ)
