Hi Guys, I’m asking here before waiting a whole lot of money for nothing.
I got a Meta Quest 3 and I would like to see it’s full potential but I run a Quadro P4000. So far, I never had any issue transcoding with it, it’s a workhorse. Transcoding and VR gaming simultaneously might jam everything up on both end. Low FPS for me and buffering while friends are streaming. I have not yet tested it on my PC .
I could buy a new GPU but I need advise on selecting the right one. AMD RT 7800RX seem good performance value, but apparently AMD sucks at Transcoding. Baybe the 7800 chang for the better on that I don’t know. The RTX 3060 on the Nvidia side seem to offer decent Specs even for a previous gen card. The obvious RTX 4070 but is a bit more money than the AMD RT 7800RX and double the price of the RTX 3060. So if RTX 3060 is good enough that would be awesome I just don’t know.
If I get the RTX 3060 and I put both card in my system. RTA 3060 to render VIdeo and My P4000 dedicated only for Plex transcoding. Due to lane limitation they would both run in PCIe X8, there for they would both not operate at their full potential x16. The only way to achieve that would be to reinstall windows on an Sata SSD, this way, I would free the Lane use by the NVMe. Doing so would in theory give me x16 and x8 “I don’t know if CPU lane will cross over”. And I’m not really willing to try that, simple solution is better.
