Transcoding

I have selected the tuner to transcode. I have a HDHomerun connect, running the PMS on a mac mini. Latest PMS and version of Sierra. It still produces .ts files. Is there any setting I can enable to get it to create mpeg 4 files?

Maybe I am missing something but does the HDHR Connnect have the ability to transcode?

From my reading I thought you had to step up to the HDHR extend model to have the tuner do the transcoding…

I’m running into the same issue. After the latest update, the transcode option is producing files using the TS container instead of MKV. The issue is that my devices are transcoding during playback so I would prefer MKV/MPEG-4 containers.

So is it a known bug or do we need to report it somewhere?

Plex switched to .ts containers so the recordings would stop aborting from poor reception. Mkvs and mp4s were aborting. .ts can be mp4 and mkv without issue as im doing it

I see. Checking VLC’s codec info, as you say, it shows the TS file as indeed being mpeg4. Thanks very much!

that transcode only converts mpeg2 video stream to h264. that settings has doesn’t change the file type extension which is a TS now for all recordings as mentioned in the release notes. https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1476678/#Comment_1476678

if it is using the transcoder for playback where it wasn’t before it should only be remuxing/direct stream which uses very little cpu power as video and audio streams should be the same.

if using a Connect the transcode recording is done by server. if using a Extend it is done by tuner.
