Transfer moviefolders between harddrives - movies shown as a newly uploaded.

Hello!

I don’t know if this is in the right forum to ask.

Every time when I transfer a movie between harddrives, i.e. from C: to D, they behave like they’re new and show up in the top of the list even though I have had them for a long time. Is there any way to not make this happend and leave the original date for upload? I only want new movies that not have been on the list before to show up as new ones. If not, I wish for the developers to see over this.

Thanks!

Tried it but it didn’t work :frowning: I have two folders for movies, C:/Torrent and D:/Filmer. When transfer between them, must I Edit Your Libraries even though both of the folders are already there? I tried all steps except for that because both of them are there.

Of course not. Just copy the files.
If your file names are so out of whack that a automatic “match” is not achievable by Plex, then the guide won’t work for you.

General advice: Never, ever add a “download” folder directly into Plex.
Always inspect new files and rename, remux, reprocess, clean up them before adding them into Plex.

I copied the folders and transfered them to the other folder, without deleting the old and followed the steps. But it didn’t work. The filenames are clean so it shouldn’t be that. Any other idées?

Thanks for the advice, I will change that folder.

If the first copy of the file was matched with e.g. TheMoviedatabase
but in the meantime you changed your primary metadata agent to be Plex Movie, then the
second copy will be matched with Plex Movie instead, resulting in 2 independent (but identically named) library items. The new item will appear in recently added.

I wish the process was easier as well. I have multiple locations set up for my libraries and as I replace the hard drives with larger ones or add new locations to a library I often move files around to best suit , I find sometimes I have had luck with the watched / unwatched status and date added to library staying correct and other times it shows up as a new addition and unwatched
