Transfer Ownership of Plex Server to Another User

Hi,

I have an “Old_PlexServer” (friendly name “MyTV”) and a “New_PlexServer”. I’ve successfully migrated my Plex installation and all its libraries to my “New_PlexServer” and it works great.

I’ve provided my “Old_PlexServer” to a friend who would like to transfer it to his account so that he doesn’t have to re-catalog all of the movies/shows and lose all of the tweaking I did to make the libraries nice.

The problem is, when he logs into the Plex app on “Old_PlexServer” using his credentials, not only is there no library, but there’s no option to create any. It looks like it needs to do an initial setup, but it won’t. When I log in with my credentials, “MyTV” is there, plain as day.

How do we get “MyTV” to be associated with his Plex account instead of mine? KEEPING IN MIND, of course, that I still want mine (on “New_PlexServer”) associated with my account. If we could just get into the library, we could change its friendly name to something else, if that would matter.

The old Plex server needs to be signed out from your plex account and subsequently signed in to your friend’s Plex account.

While deleting the certain entries mentioned in the help article above, do also remove the following:

  • MachineIdentifier
  • ProcessedMachineIdentifier
  • AnonymousMachineIdentifier
