Transfer Plex to new drive

Server Version#: 1.32.7.7621

Hello. Purchased a new larger drive and want to transfer the Plex server to the new drive. I have a Synology 220+ with an 8TB drive in it. Want to transfer to a 16TB. There are a lot of articles about doing this, but it’s confusing and I’m not sure which one to follow. Any suggestions?

Are you using DSM 7 ?

If you are:

  1. Stop Plex
  2. Control Panel → Shared Folder → EDIT the PlexMediaServer shared folder
  3. Change “Location” to point to the new volume.
  4. Click SAVE
  5. Now wait until it’s complete (it will take time)

Here you see where I can move from Volume1 → Volume2

Thank you. Much easier than what I was reading. Trying this now.

This worked perfectly. If I may ask, can I do the same steps for the actual media?

To do media,

  1. Turn off ALL automatic updating (Library) and disable “empty trash”
  2. SAVE
  3. Stop Plex
  4. Now use the same to move the shared folders

When you next start Plex

  1. EDIT each library section – Folders tab
  2. CHANGE the volume (manually with your keyboard… easiest)
  3. SAVE

Repeat until all sections done

Final steps

  1. Scan files
  2. Empty Trash
  3. Clean Bundles
  4. Optimize Database
  5. Turn the Library - Automatic stuff back on

Thank you very, very much.
