Transferred files to a new SSD, accidentally deleted my server, and can't add a new server

Server Version#: 1.41.8.9834-071366d65
Player Version#: 4.147.1

I bought a new computer and transferred all my media files to a new external SSD. I installed Plex Media Server and saw that it wasn’t able to connect to my server (for obvious reasons). I figured that I could just delete the server and create a new one from the SSD. Now I’m seeing the Not Authorized message and can’t claim the server (Open Plex doesn’t send me anywhere helpful). I can’t go back to my old system as the files aren’t still there, and this fresh install of Plex doesn’t have any of the listed files in the registry to modify.

What can I do to resolve this?

You install it like a new system. (well, it is a new system)

Claim the new server. New Claiming Requirement for Windows

You may have to edit all your Plex clients and un-pin/un-favorite the old libraries, then pin the new libraries.

Hi Otto, thanks for the fast response!

Every time I click Open Plex it gives me the same error, so I’m unable to claim the server (this is still required even though I accidentally deleted the server?). Is there something else that I can try to get me out of this loop?

Read the link I gave you first. It details a way of claiming without opening Plex web first.
Also: did you import the registry data from the old installation?
Did you actually install “Plex Media Server” and not just “Plex”?

Yes, I’ve read that article several times and I installed PMS using the file “PlexMediaServer-1.41.8.9834-071366d65-x86_64”. That HTML file leads me to “Initializing PMS” for about 5 minutes and then says an error occurred. I’ve also followed other resources detailing registry edits that do not resolve the issue for me.

I’ll try to copy the old registry data and see if that works.

Exporting and importing the old registry values worked! Thank you so much!
