I tried to transfer my server to a new Mac mini. When I follow the instructions files and folders I am supposed to move are not there. Not sure how to move things that don’t exist.
Also my settings screen looks different than everything I see online. Everything says click Settings, then Server, but I don’t have that Server link to click. All my settings appear down the left side of the screen.
I don’t understand why it is different or why I don’t have the Plex Media Server folder in my Application Support folder.
Here is an update to my problem. All the files and folders associated with Plex Media Server don’t seem to be present. I do not have the following folders/files:
~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/
~/Library/Caches/PlexMediaServer/
~/Library/Logs/Plex Media Server/
com.plexapp.plexmediaserver
I do have the Plex Media Server app in my applications folder. When I quit the server from the menu bar I can no longer access it from another machine, so I know it works. Odd thing is when I open a finder window and type “plex” in the search bar and search “this mac” I see two Plex Media Server apps in the list. Both point to the same applications folder. They have different “last opened” dates. Neither of which are accurate. One is Dec 31st 1969 and the other is Today 8:08am. I’ve opened it multiple time today since then.
I also had problems transferring my server from an old mac mini to a newer one. I initially tried time machine backup to rebuild the new mini but that did not work correctly so I resorted to using an old app I had called “App Delete” which takes all instances of PLEX (or any software you want to totally delete) on the new machine and deletes them. Then I did a fresh install and rebuild the database. It is time consuming but it worked except for auto restart after computer restart ( haven’t fixed that yet). Remember to name the new server the same name as the old if you take this approach.
You are probably looking at the wrong library folder. there are multiple. The one in the user folder is i think still hidden by default on macOS. the ~ means the user folder, also known as the home folder
Use the Finders “go” menu and choose “Go to Folder” towards the bottom and enter ~/Library/ it will open a finder window with it and then you should be able to see the sub folders
You can also open terminal type in chflags nohidden ~/Library and it will unhide it permanently ( well it might hide again when updating macOS)
