Transition from Synology DSM 6 Plex to Syno DSM 7 but with Plex under Docker

I am currently running a Synology DS918+ running DSM 6.2.4-25556 Update 2 and I am running Plex 1.24.3.5033-6000 on that.

I want to upgrade my NAS to DSM 7.0 but I also want to switch from Plex running as a Direct NAS app, to Plex running under Docker.

What is the best sequence of events to achieve this. I am guessing, that I follow the instructions regarding a plex on DSM6 to Plex on DSM 7 Migration but I see multiple postings around DSM7 - is there a definitive install/upgrade guide?

So once I have done the DSM 6 to 7 upgrade, will plex (1.24.3.5033-6000 ) continue to work as is, or do I then create a docker container under DSM 7 and somehow point it to where the Plex files are?

Is there a easier way?

I cannot comment on the migration path from native to Docker as I do not run Plex via Docker.

Regarding DSM 6 & 7, they are very different beasts. There are many changes when running Plex as a native app on DSM 7 vs DSM 6. You cannot simply upgrade to DSM 7 and have everything work.

This is the definitive guide:
