Trash not emptying

Hey @“MovieFan.Plex”

It is a very odd issue indeed!! Initially i thought it was content on my stablebit drive, but it isnt limited to just stablebit! I wonder if it is just windows servers? havent seen clarification from the other posts.

Looking over your logs, I see it trying to scan Season 5 for the new files, but it isn’t then finishing by updating info for the old files. Seasons 1-4 appear to be ok. Are there any files in those seasons that are also not being deleted?

Although there is no indication of a DB issue, but it may be. Would you be willing to PM me your database?

I am having the same issue as the others, I updated the library and then grabbed the logs, they are attached.

Can you give an example of what show and specific which episode isn’t being removed so I know what to look for.

Bewitched, Gomer Pyle USMC are 2. There was a lot of stuff I transferred to a different server.

I had the same problem described here by others, I ended up fixing it by checking all the folders I was using for the library. One of the folders was something that I moved to a different hard drive a few weeks ago and completely forgot about, and even though the tv show in question was located on D :\TV Shows, it wouldn’t empty the trash from there because E:\Tv Shows\ didn’t exist anymore.

Removed E:\TV Shows\ from the list of library folders and it emptied out immediately.

Thanks for this post as your info just led to me fixing my problem that has been affecting my movie and TV libraries for some time now.

I wanted to expand on the issue a little bit. In my case I had removed the Plex DVR “recordings” folders as I had stopped using Plex DVR awhile back when my location became unable to pick up most channels. I removed movies first because I had 0 recordings, but I still had TV shows in the TV recordings folder so that stayed. I now know that once I removed the movies folder that broke my servers ability to mark stuff as trashed. It would say unavailable but never delete it.

I assume this is because Plex doesn’t want you emptying trash on a whole drive you didn’t realize wasn’t showing up for some reason. It won’t trash anything if there is a missing directory for that library. However they should probably do some kind of alert about this because it isn’t obvious. ALSO it makes 0 sense for this issue to affect drives still showing up. Just because I had deleted those recording folders shouldn’t cause Plex to ignore deleted content on paths that are active. It should only affect stuff that was listed on those deleted paths.

I get that this probably isn’t exactly a bug, but it probably needs some work as far as the user experience goes.

This was 100% the answer for me. The affected library had an old source folder that I had cleaned up without updating the library. Once I removed this old folder, within seconds the scan had removed all the missing files from the database. Thanks, @Collisionc !
