We need more control with TRASH CAN

Server Version#: 1.40.1.8227
Player Version#:Does not matter

I have a drive that’s starting to show signs of failure no BIGGY started moving TV shows also upgraded to better versions 480 to 720 corrected the name over to another drive last week. This weekend We couldn’t watch TV show because Unavailable Last week dumped the Trash can rescanned them ! PMO Reading how PLEX really doesn’t do anything because the drive might be down or not in the mood till its gone for awhile. Is not Exceptable ! I should have the power in settings to OVER-RIDE wash out old map settings to file location. It shows both in PLEX and in PLEX wisdom of we will ignore the new one and try and play the old one Unavailable. Am I missing a setting I haven’t learned ? Never had this trouble on KODI changing files around and cleaning Libraries.

P.S. H drive is the new one

You can empty the trash manually for the library which will remove any links to non-existent files at that time.

Just FYI in case anyone else is confused: you can still play the movie, it just says “Unavailable” because one format is unavailable. As @dduke2104 mentioned, you can just empty the trash to get rid of the “Unavailable” message. Sometimes you may need to do a little Plex Dance as well.

I suck trying to type what I am saying. I did empty the trash can. I do that every time I move videos to the other drive and then click update libraries after it finishes, I empty the trash can. PLEX pops up saying it will not delete immediately to make sure the drive may be offline and the Server will eventually remove it. That what I stated we should have the option to override that feature knowing we are moving files around, I can see a pop-up warning but the option to continue to wipe it off the server.

I have several times. I just posted new photos showing the date of my system bottom right corner

Are you saying that you’re emptying the Windows trash can or that you’re using the ‘Empty Trash’ function for the Plex library?

The Plex Trash can every time and I also do the Windows Trash can every couple of days

Do you think its the trace in the Windows Trash Can? Shouldn’t see it in Explorer. But I can do that can also every time moving files

Plex will not empty its trash can, if one of the folders/drives that has been added to the library

  • is not accessible
  • is completely empty

If you are not planning to put some media files back into the empty folder, remove it from the properties of your Plex library.

If you will eventually populate the folder in the future, put at least one file into it. It doesn’t have to be a media file - a small .txt file will suffice as well.

I have the settings enabled in PLEX to Automatically Empty the Trash after every update. And also manually do it myself when transferring folders. Not “TV Shows” Series Folders

As you can see in my photos showing 2 different drives. I have a total of 6 drives each has one main folder TV Shows/. They are not NAS as considered as one folder. 6 drives each having its own letter and TV show folder. J is the drive I am moving entire TV series like Airwolf/ to drive H. Airwolf is gone on drive J and after taking out the trash PLEX seems to have a ghost in its software keeping that alive.
P.S. Drive C: is Temp Drive for the DVR to record From PLEX and MCEbuddy scans and reduces the size and moves it to Drive G:TV Shows/

Is the folder J:\TV Shows currently completely empty?
(or any other of these 6 folders, for that matter)
If yes, see my above response.

No J: TV shows still have hundreds of Shows on it. I have to review each Show for missing episodes and length and update. Eventually J: will be empty and removed from PLEX.

I have been recording TV Shows since 2010 with WMC 6 tuners 24/7 with MCEbuddy. So it’s going to be a while for me LOL hoping I get it all off before J: Drive dies. And yes I have another J: Drive matching the original for backup at a separate location in case of theft or fire.

Another quirk I found with PLEX is when you delete a Movie that has 2 different titles on 2 different drives sharing the same name. Using the PLEX dupes scanner works half great in finding those after deleting them I noticed they are still alive in the custom Collections LOL Had to manually remove it from Collection.

When you click empty Trash this pop-up shows “By default the media server doesn’t remove information for media right away. This helps if a drive is temporarily disconnected. When you empty the trash for a section, all information about missing media is deleted.”

So no timeline on how long till it’s flushed out of the system depends on WHAT mood PLEX is in.

You are misinterpreting this sentence. It is merely a general explanation of what the trash can does.

Since you already have activated the automatic emptying of the trash, it doesn’t really apply to you.

Please verify again that none of the folders is empty, and that all folders do exist and are accessible.

Well, I found the issue. My PLEX Server settings are set not to delete library items so after turning that off I was able to clean it up. So even though I deleted items using Windows Explorer PLEX refused to let it go till I unchecked that setting. Some manually split the folder and delete the ghost file in PLEX view.
