Troubles with language entries in video files

Server Version#: 4.62.1

Hi,

Working for seven months or so with Plex on Windows 10 64-bit. However, I am still having some issues I am not able to solve for now. Sorry for my English.

One of the main issues is the fact that Germans don’t like to change the language of the video files that is included in the file. Any e. g. mp4’s I have use ENGLISH as entry, although they are synchronized with German language.

Obviously for that reason Plex is very often showing English text and episodes titles. Any Plex configuration is set to German as language.

I cannot find a senseful way to edit all mp4’s and change the language entry to German. As far as I believe all of them must be rendered again for that.

Do you know any solution?

That’s mere track headers. No need to re-encode files to fix bad language tags.

On Mac there’s an app called Subler that’ll do this. Not sure what app will do the same on Windows/Linux… as a last resort you could run the files through MKVToolNix (remux) and fix the tags with MKVToolNix‘s header editor.

Thanks. Will do some research. It seems to be that there are alternatives to Subler available for Windows. Is MKVToolNix also able to work on mp4’s as I almost only have mp4 file format?

MKVToolNix will remux your files and output an MKV file… hence a last resort if you cannot find anything else.

Regarding the episode titles:
Make sure that the language setting for this movie library is German.
Also, go to the “Advanced” tab of the library properties and clear the checkbox “prefer local meta tags”.

Thanks.

In the main menu at the left side there are no language settings for this/any category. Why not?

In each series category there are only in a few cases language settings. In almost all are none.

I cannot find any library properties in “Advanced” (German: Erweitert) with a checkbox “prefer local meta tags”…

Any idea what’s going wrong here?

You’re editing a movie – not the library.

  1. Hover your cursor over the library name
  2. Click the context menu > Manage Library > Edit... to open the library configuration (Verwalte Mediathek > Bearbeiten...)
  3. Switch to the Advanced tab (Erweitert)

There you should find an option to prefer local metadata (Bevorzuge lokale Metadaten). If you don’t have that option… what agent have you set for this library (info should be at the top of the same configuration tab).

Thanks again for spending your time to help me.

I would like to edit each complete TV series resp. the whole main category (as all and everything within is in German).

When I go that way on the main category at the left menu, I reach this:

No option for prefer local metadata.

Plex Series Scanner is the agent as it is the only agent working with TheTVDB - Plex TV Series does not.

That’s not true.

When I choose Scanner: Plex TV Series then Agent switches to: Plex TV Series
When clicking afterwards at “Agent” on “TheTVDB” option field “Scanner” above switches back to Plex Series Scanner.

That’s the reason for my statement above.

The new agent can only work with the new scanner.
The old agents can only work with the old scanner.
That is the reason why the scanner selection is automatically following when you change the agent.
