Hi, i am trying to use Plex, in a realy simple way. Just use it on my computer in local to read videos that are on an external HD. Dont want to stream or connect from somewhere else.
But i admit i am completly lost.
It worked only few times, then stop working, without i can find any logic.
Seem that i have a troubleshooting remote acces as i have a Not available outside your network error.
I have read documentation, but its really too complex for me.
From what i have understand, it could be the configuration of my home network that create the issue, and prevent plex to connect to my external HD.
I am not directed connect to wifi to my Box?.
The configuration is:
livebox >Ethernet cable> TP-Link Wireless N Nano Router WR802N > My macbook > External HD
The IP of my TP link isent static, maybe is it what create the issue ?
Maybe should i create a static IP ? But then what shoudl i write ? random number ?
or is it only a manuel port configuration i should do … I am afraid to broke the configuration of my tp-link and dont get wifi anymore. So for the moment i havent touch anything.
I guess i should manually put the port somewhere, but.. i dont know where.
Soem help would be appreciate ^^
Otherwise i will just use infuse, that seems more simple for what i want to do. But Plex interface, seems really better, so i would be glad to succeed.
There’s also a guide with some more details on how to troubleshoot remote access. As for assigning a „static“ local IP address to your local devices… check your router configuration for an option to have an IP reservation — no need to manually hard-code this. You probably need to take a look at the interaction between the TP Link router and your livebox: this setup could result in unwanted network segmentation.
So you confirm that what create this issue is the fact that my router get a dynamic IP ?
At least if i know this i make a first step, and can try to look how change this.
Here is the place where the livebox documentation said, i can assign a Static IP
The TP Link cannot assign a static IP address to itself. That’s usually provided by your ISP — if the TP link is not directly connected to the internet but through the livebox, the Livebox might be the one assigning a local IP address to the TP link.
The important part is for the device hosting your Plex Media Server to have a fixed IP address. If you have the livebox taking care of that, you should check if you can configure the TP link in „bridge mode“. That means it’ll no longer create a subnet of its own but let the livebox assign local IP addresses to all your devices.
This could be one puzzle piece to fix your remote access.
