TrueHd being transcoded to Opus on U8G

Player Version#: 9.6.03384(bf9b1952)

I have a movie that is Dolby vision/atmos, but when I play it, the audio transcodes to OPUS and I get a message saying TrueHD not supported. I saw some others having this problem too and was wondering if this was a plex bug.

Not a bug. It is expected.

The TV cannot decode or passthrough TrueHD audio from TV based apps (no known TV has this capability). Therefore Plex will transcode it to a supported format.

There are two forms of Atmos audio for home use: TrueHD + Atmos, the type found on Blu-ray discs, and Dolby Digital Plus + Atmos, they type used by streaming services such as Netflix.

The TV does support Dolby Digital Plus + Atmos. So, if your media has that audio format, it should direct play when using the Plex app.

Atmos information is lost during the transcode. So, even if Plex transcoded TrueHD to Dolby Digital Plus, the Atmos info would still be lost.

Ah that does make sense now. So I guess something like an nvidia shield pro is how I get it to not transcode

Yes. The Shield Pro will direct play TrueHD + Atmos and DTS-HD MA/:X audio.
