Try to import XMLTV files onto Plex Server running on WD PR4100 NAS

I just moved my Plex server to my WD PR4100 NAS. Setup HDHR and attempting to import an EPG123 XMLTV file. The guide file was created on my Windows machines, however I copied it to the Public folder on my NAS and trying to import from there. Specifically, when going through Plex’ DVR setup and put in the path to my XMLTV file, I get the message back, “Invalid or missing file”. What’s strange is, that when I had the Plex server running on my Windows (or even Mac) machine, I had no trouble importing.

Any ideas, please? I’m new at running the Plex Server exclusively on my NAS

The trick is figuring out where the file is on the NAS. On the WD NAS, the file name is:
/mnt/HD/HD_a2/Public/epg123.xmltv. I hope you can get it to load correctly. I have tried every configuration I can think of but still get the message “Unable to load channel mappings”.

thanks, I’ll give that a try. I would have never come up with the path you listed before /public. We’ll see tonight, when I try.

Perfect!! Thanks so much. I found that path list no where. Copied it and now it’s loading my guide, as well as channel mappings.

Hope you resolve your problem, but you resolved mine. Thanks, again.

Did you get your channel mappings to load completely? I have never got past the message “Unable to load channel mappings”.

Yes I did. Thankfully!

As to the path on the NAS, how the heck is anyone to know that? You spared me hours of aggravation trying to figure out the correct path.

I wonder why your channel mappings are having issues. Maybe, start from scratch again creating the XMLTV file?

What settings did you use? I have tried several combinations without any luck.

As for finding where the file was stored, I found the file location on https://support.plex.tv/articles/202915258-where-is-the-plex-media-server-data-directory-located/

Getting to it is the next problem. You have to turn on SSH in the network settings of WD NAS. Then you need a program which can actually read the directory. Somewhere I found where WinSCP was recommended and I downloaded that app. It took a while but I finally figured it out. If you need more instructions, just let me know.

I did all kinds of Google searches, but came up empty. But I guess I didn’t look deep enough into Plex to find where the data directories were located. I did find a WD article that talked about turning on SSH for resetting the Plex database and then there were commands that looked like what you sent me. https://support.wdc.com/knowledgebase/answer.aspx?ID=15072&s=. I did not need to turn on SSH in order to find my EPG123 XMLTV file. There were all kinds of cautions about doing that.

When I’m home tonight, and have access to my Plex server, I’ll send you a screen shot of my settings.

Here’s a screenshot of my settings. Just plain vanilla defaults.

Hope this might shed some light on your problems. And again, thanks for guiding me toward the right path in order to get my XMLTV file into Plex.

Well, I cannot get it to load on my NAS, but I set up a server on my laptop, and it loaded without a problem. I must have some weird thing going on with the NAS server. It did not take the laptop version of the server more than a few seconds to load up the channels.

As soon as I used the path you send me for WD it loaded right up, first try, with no issues. Hope you get it figured out.
