Trying to add a folder to a Library without success

When you create a lirbary you select what default agent it will use to match it. This agent corresponds with a database website. For TV shows that website will be either the TVDB or The MovieDB. The default agent for TV libraries is TVDB

99% of the time the default TVDB is fine. however sometimes there are cases like this where TVDB has those three listed in a single show with the miniseries and final battle as specials of that how. because of this even though they are separate folders on your computer Plex is using its best guess that they are the same show because TVDB is the agent the library is using by default.

that is why you end up with this.

Luckily the The MovieDB has these listed as three separate shows.

https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/14141
https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/75893-v
https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/75896-v-the-final-battle

The first step in fixing it to be like TheMovieDB has is to Split Apart the show. it will split apart based on the folder they are in on your computer.

after they are split apart I can tell in this case based on the number of episodes which is which.
so for the one with 2 episodes I do a fix match and select search option at the top of that window. making sure the year is the correct 1983 and that I have changed the agent to themovieDB

selecting the top one listed as 1983 in the results.

After that I went in and edited the metadata so it actually said V the Miniseries

then did similar for the one with three episodes that is the Final Battle ( luckily TheMovieDB has that ones name spelled out

Oh, I never thought about changing the Fix Match source to anything other than TVDB. And, least I forget, thank you so very much for sticking with me to dig out and answer for those of us less techie. Your explanation above is super clear. You’ve clearly spent a lot of time on my behalf and I can’t express how grateful I am. Now, let me get to work and see if I can work your magic. I’ll let you know how I do…

OMG I think I got it right!

v test 7

Now, can I arrange the 3 folders so that I have Mini Series, Complete Series, and then Final Battle?

Edit the Sort Title field in the metadata to something that will work alphabetically

In this example I changed the sort titles to V01, V02, and V03

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I never could have gotten this just the way I wanted it without your help and patience. I only hope that I have the luck (for me, anyway) to find you again when I next paint myself into a corner. Is there any way for me to go directly to you for help? I am having another PLEX dilemma that I’m getting help with and I hope that it ends as well as this one has. You’re THE MAN!!
