TV Series cannot be added anymore

Server Version#: Version 1.18.9.2571
Player Version#: Version 1.6.3.1009-57cf57c8

Today something strange is going on. I was adding a new Episode of a TV Show which I already had in my Plex. For some reason, that specific file (naming was alright, because all the other files are named the same way, and they always worked!) would not be recognized by Plex Server. You saw it popping up when you scanned for it, as if Plex found something new, but then it was gone again. I checked the folder where the episode was in, all was correct.

All like it was with the other episodes, and other shows. But that episode did not want to show up on Plex. So I removed the whole folder & show, copied it temporarely to another location. Scanned the Media, and of course it removed the whole show from Plex. As it should be. So i restarted all, Plex Server, started the Player (Windows 10) and added the folder back. No luck, now instead of just that one episode, Plex didnt add the whole show with all the other files that were previously in Plex already. So I removed it again.

Now added a new series folder, and just for start, i added one episode, one of those that always worked before. It still wont add that TV SHow at all back to Plex.

What the hell ?`???

I dont get it. I never had that before.

And, on top of that, everything else that I might add, all is recognized and added, BUT NOT that one show.

I mean, come on …

Help anyone please ? :frowning:

Are you using the exact naming convention? https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/ May times its been said, if you are not following the guidance exactly then PLEX will work…until it doesn’t. Just because it used to work is no guarantee it will continue to work.

Trust me, the name i use (with FileBot and used with TVDB) works fine. Its not the naming. I have plenty of other things, named in the same way, and they ALL work. Its NOT the naming. However its very odd. And it only concerns that one show now. Before it was just one episode of that show, now it doesnt matter how many are in this folder, its all.

Does not make sense. ALready rescanned etc. many times. Anything else I add, all works fine and is added. Just not that.

provide some details about that show or file then. what show is it?

Star Trek - Picard

It was already in there for many weeks.

Episodes I named in the following format (and by now tried a few other name styles, nothing helps atm):

I also tried

But mainly, and that also concerns all my other shows, naming convention is like this in FileBot.

It works for all other shows, movies etc. this way. Just not with this show. But only after I removed it completely. As I said, it started with the newest episode not being recognized. After removing the whole show, for some reason the whole show / folder & files are not recognized anymore.

yeah either of those naming should be fine. is the show not being added at all or being added but no metadata?

if not being added at all probably need to see scanner log.
if added but no metadata then the tvdb log (assuming tvdb is the libraries primary agent)

Its not added all, not just Meta Data. Thats the strange thing. Where do I find the scanner logs ?

in trouble shooting section of server settings there is a button to download all logs in a zip fie but they are also in the appdata folder. https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/

This is from the top part of the latest Scan log file.

Do you understand this ?

This sounds much more like issues, but I dont understand what it means.

Drop the entire zip file on the message window. You don’t need pastebin.

looks like you are using just the root of the drive S:\ for the library. that can cause issues like this.

Can you add a subdirectory like TV or whatever. so it ends up as S:\TVshows\Star Trek - Picard\Season 01\Star Trek - Picard - S01E01 - Remembrance.mkv

so S:\TVshows is the folder you add to library like

Yea, with such nice file naming - would be a shame to screw it up like that…

Well, S: & T: are the drives on my NAS that i have all TV Shows on. I do have Subdirectories for all Shows, Seasons etc. but not added all TV Shows into yet another folder called TV-Shows.

i understand but i guarantee it will cause problems sooner or later even if it seems to work fine for a while.

but if you don’t want to do that I would try this The Plex Dance ™

@ChuckPa may know something I don’t, but Plex Libraries won’t work (for long or for ever) stored in the root.

Libraries need a library folder.

I am using 2 different “Shared Folders” from my NAS for the TV Shows. TV Shows & TV Shows 2.

@JuiceWSA … technically both are folders, shared folders. They are not a whole harddisk at the end.

for example on my NAS I have one shared folder “Media” in it are my separate TV and movie folders. ( i’m on a Mac that’s why no drive letters)

Like I say - Chuck may allow foolishness like that in a NAS environment.
It won’t work anywhere else.

As a Test, create at least one of these:

Aim Plex at a test library.
Put Picard in it
and see what happens.

Since a shared folder on your NAS links to one drive in your NAS, i could not do that, because my library of TV Shows and Movies would alone be far too huge to put on a single drive.
