Trying to transcode 4K video from my custom build NAS lags

Server Version#:Latest on Docker image
Player Version#:Latest on Firestick 4K

Hello,
I’ve a custom NAS build with an I5 3550s with 8GB ddr3 memory and 5x2TB RAID5 nas.

When I try to do a transcoding from a 4k video source to 1080P targertting the Firestick it lags…
How do I understand if it’s the CPU that’s bottlenecking?

If I put an nvidia 1660 should I be able to perform hardware transcoding and avoid such a problem?

Thanks

Yes, that cpu is too slow to handle 4k content. That cou has a score of 4500, PassMark - Intel Core i5-3550S @ 3.00GHz - Price performance comparison. You need 2000 to handle 1080p h264. 4K has 4x the resolution so you’ll need 4x the power. If your video is hevc, you’ll need even more power.

Edit - An NVidia GForce GTX 1660 should be able to handle at least 1 hardware transcode.

So an i5 8400 can handle 1 4k playback?

@noreshold

If you don’t burn subtitles, the i5-8400 can easily handle 1 4K transcode and very likely a second one.

Got it… found one used on a forum… with mobo but only 8gb ram…let you know!
