II’m trying to transition from Kodi and that means using Plex App on a W10 machine through a TV with a keyboard. (not mouse!) so when I try use the shortcuts (up arrow, left, right, spacebar ) and nothing works on the Pex app. the focus doesn’t shift, I cant get to the sidebar on the left and I can’t get videos to play.
The keyboard definitely works (I’m typing this on it and I use it for kodi)
If you want to use Plex as a home theater setup, you might prefer the “classic” Plex Media Player. Plex Media Player is designed to be used from a TV. Download is currently only available in the respective release announcement thread.
The Plex for Windows player is targeted at users who run it simply as a desktop app.
The link below is pointing to Plex Media Player v2.54.0 which has been released <1 week ago:
I’ve just tried PMP above but its absolutely useless. There’s no tv guide grid. So so far I’ve tried: smart tv, PMP which both have no tv guide and Windows App that does but has no keyboard/remote control functionality.
Its like walking into a car store and being told they have to cracking models of sports car available (at a premium you’ve already paid) and the first model has no steering wheel and the second model has no brakes. Both nearly there but not usable.
Let’s curb it down a notch…
The Plex Media Player offers a different access to now playing shows/movies from live tv.
At the moment, the channel grid view is available for the following players:
Amazon Fire TV
Android TV
Apple TV
iOS
macOS (desktop)
Plex Web App
Roku
Windows (desktop)
Plex says they’re working to bring that view to more apps (that being said… no specific list or ETAs available).
It’s as notched down as I go. On re-reading I even deleted my t*ts on a bull analogy. For a greater understanding of Australia’s love of analogies I recommend looking up honey badger interviews on YouTube. (It’ll keep you amused).
All I’m saying is it’s great having 2 choices of apps but when none of them offer the full functionality they become unsuitable to some.
I’ve tried those keyboard controls. None really work for me on windows when playing music. The space bar toggles play pause (not listed on that list) and home, end, B, P, etc., none of those work. Would be nice to have the real list for the current app that is shipping.
I take it you’re using Plex for Windows (not 100% clear from your post).
On the app home screen, click on your user (top right corner) and then on Keyboard shortcuts.
I’ve tried those shortcuts they don’t work in Plex for windows. For example on any of the libraries the arrow keys don’t move the selection around. ESC or deleted don’t take you back a level and enter does nothing.
Thanks Tom80H. Didn’t know that screen existed (definitely wouldn’t look for it there). I tried some of the key commands and the actually “normal” keys work fine. Glad I tried them. The Play Pause, etc keys don’t work for me even though the keyboard has them. But the other ones do.
Again thanks for your quick response.
