Tuner Problems: 7 Channels Found on Plex While Antenna Finds 60

Server Version#: Version 1.42.1.10060
Player Version#:NA

Tuner Make/Model: Hauppauge WinTV-quadHD
Guide/Lineup name: ?
Using XMLTV?: Not anymore
Channel number/Name: any

I’ve had the same setup for over five years now. Recently, I noticed recordings stopped and found that the HDTV antenna was no longer receiving a signal. Turns out the flat coaxial cable got mangled outsid,e and the signal was cut. I’ve replaced it with another, but now when I scan channels, I am only seeing 7 in Plex. When I plug the same cable directly into a TV and scan for channels, it finds 60.

So, looking for a little assistance here on how to improve the channels found during the scan. I really appreciate any help you can provide.

Have you refreshed EPG or manually checked that they are not just disabled?

it is what you selected when you set up the tuner. In my image is the one for OTA. It might say Xfinity, Dish , AT&T Uverse or similar. OTA will generally be “Local Broadcast listing”

I will need to know this and your postal code to manually check what we have for your area.

Hi @BigWheel thank you very much for your reply and assistance, it is appreciated. This is what I see:

Note that I did another scan here in the dead of morning and was able to get more channels. Still, 17-19 is a far cry from the roughly 60 channels I get from a straight connect to a TV.

Oh ok I misunderstood and I thought you meant it was just missing epg. Have you tried other software on computer, just to make sure tuner card is not damaged.

I have, and WinTV only finds 7 channels. There are four tuners, so it would seem that if this were hardware-related, no channels would be found.

When plugging direct, I am seeing 2-3 bars on most the channels as well. I’ll keep looking into this and report any updates.

After a lot of trial and error – more error than trial – I figured out the problem to be the signal booster we got with the antenna. Never suspected that it could go bad, but that looks like exactly what happened. Removing that gets most of our channels back and explains why I was able to get better reception without it when plugging directly. I have a new booster on the way, but for now, I think we are situated. Thank you @BigWheel for taking the time to check in with your customers and help them out! It is greatly appreciated. :folded_hands:
