Almost all of the shows my DVR is recording are picking up a version of the audio where a narrator describes what is happening on screen. doing a little bit of research I believe this is a feature for the visually impaired called descriptive video service (DVS). I can’t find anything in the settings of Plex or my HDhomerun tuner. Does anyone have any idea how to turn this feature off? It is extremely annoying.
This recording should have more than one audio stream. You only need to select the other audio stream to get the right audio.
You’re right, and I think I figured out a solution for making this the default. For whatever reason, the DVS audio track is labeled as Espanol. In my server Language settings I checked the box to automatically select my preferred language and subtitle tracks. After that I tested a couple videos that have DVS and it automatically used the English audio track!
I’m having the issue on some of the ABC shows I record. I did some checking and noticed that the original .ts file has two audio files; one says English, the second one says Spanish. However, they are both English channels, but one will have the descriptions. Problem is, some times it’s the English channel and sometimes the Spanish.
So, when I convert the file via MCEBuddy, I have to choose one audio channel. However, sometimes the descriptions are in channel 1 and sometimes channel 2.
MCEBuddy allows two audio channels but only if you use the FFMPEG profile and I’m using the Roku3.
Anyway, this just started happening in September. I thought it was a ‘feature’ of one of the new shows, Stumptown. I thought they meant for it to be in there. I stopped watching the show because I couldn’t stand it. Now I’m learning that’s not the case at all.
Would be great if someone had a suggestion on how to fix this or at least a workaround. I could choose one of the audio channels over the other, but that will just change which shows have the descriptions.
I am having the same issue with ABC shows. Were you able to find a solution?
I was having the same issue, particularly with ABC. It was annoying to have to change to English, but it worked. Then I added a post-processing script that used HandbrakeCLI and English was no longer even an option. Instead I got two audio streams with DVS. So I added a line to the script and now English is the only language streams I get. The line I added was: --audio-lang-list=“eng”. The rest of the script can be found here: https://thatvirtualboy.com/2017/11/28/plex-dvr-postprocessing-script.html
Seems similar to my problem. i have also seen the descriptive audio issuse. Seems related to picking wrong audio track.
