hmmm…very suspicious if you’re running my mediatree kernel. The DVB-T/T2 auto patch has not changed so I don’t know why it would stop working. I’ll ask support if they’ve heard anything.
I’m going to try this on another machine to make sure there’s nothing screwy with my server install.
I’ll stick 19.04 on to make sure it works and then upgrade to 19.10 and see what happens.
Hmm, well it’s doing something different on the other PC running 19.04.
Kaffeine works fine.
w_scan output to a VLC playlist doesn’t seem to find any HD channels.
Plex doesn’t even find the device and I can’t track down why. I’ll spend a bit more time on it over the weekend.
Kaffeine is smart and thorough, it explicitly sets the PLP to DVB-T2. Plex and w_scan both ignore PLP, plex’s library for “time savings during scan”. Those two pieces of software rely on the T/T2 auto patch, whereas kaffeine does not.
Can you try this:
cat /sys/modules/si2168/parameters/dvbt_auto_plp
it should be the default of 1, which is enabled.
Thanks, yeah it’s 1
Bizarre. I’ll queue this for investigation, but oddly no other users have made a stink about it on github. Usually when I’ve broken something pitch forks go up pretty quickly.
Thanks. It was a fresh install of Ubuntu today and I followed the instructions from the Hauppauge website to get it running. I’ll have a play around more this weekend to see if o missed something important
couple of things
I think I missed doing sudo usermod -a -G video plex
However that didn’t fix it.
I did install PMS from the Ubuntu Software store though as a snap.
I was having trouble restarting the service - it couldn’t find it.
So I removed the snap and installed from the download from the plex page and now it finds the tuner very quickly. Now to see if it can find the HD channels
Edit: HD channels found (even though Plex seemed to mangle the matches)
BBC 1 and 2, ITV and Channel 4 and 5 work in HD.
Now to upgrade the PC to 19.10 and see what happens.
Upgrade to 19.10 and then upgrade from the eoan PPA and HD channels still work.
Unplugged the WinTV from the new PC and plugged it into my old one and HD channels work!!!
However Plex says it couldn’t find the device when I go to DVR setup.
Removed the old device and added it again and HD channels are found and mapped.
HD channels now play but…
… here’s where I may have been getting some extra interference. The web player in Chrome seems to be having issues playing back HD channels as well. If I use the Windows app then I can play HD channels fine.
So HD channels are working correctly for me in 19.10.
Many thanks to @NDInnovations for your support and work on the update, you’ve been incredibly helpful.
The web player issue is something else I can look at elsewhere.
