Cannot watch HD channels

Hi,

I have recently installed a Hauppauge WinTV-dual HD TV tuner on my Plex Media Server which is an Ubuntu Server 17.10 box with an AMD Phenom II X6 1055T CPU and 8GB of RAM.

The tuner picks up all the expected channels and lists them fine, I am able to play standard SD channels without an issue but when I try and watch an HD channel I get the error “Unable to tune channel”. Here are the logs johnm_ColaSC kindly filtered through in this other thread.

Has anyone had this issue or has anyone got an idea what I could do to try and debug further or fix the issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have this same issue with the same tuner on windows 10. However, mine worked fine yesterday (after initial setup) on web interface, firestick and iphone. It was while i was testing firestick functionality that I first received this message. Went to bed and this morning when I researched further I discovered that the plex server program had crashed (using plex for years and this has never happened).

Once I restarted, things were once again good initially. After a few random test tunes to different stations and a record request, it started again.

I’m in the middle of a 1gig backup with a new backup provider so this is utilizing some of my processing power that would otherwise be free for plex. Once the backup is done, I plan on rebooting the server to see what happens then.

Turns out it was a tuning issue. I contacted Hauppauge support and then got it sorted. Because I chose Full Frequency Range instead of single transmitter it was tuning the HD channels against the wrong transmitter. After re-installing the tuner with a specific transmitter everything started working. Thanks for everyone’s help :slight_smile:
