Well my 30 day trial of IceTV expired so I did the remove and reinstall tuner thing (why, oh why can’t we just change EPG provider without reinstalling the whole thing) to try Gracenote again,
It seems Gracenote has fixed the problem now, all channels working for me in Newcastle NSW.
I too can confirm that the issue now appears to be fixed but I would like to make the following points…
While it is satisfying to finally have this issue resolved, it’s not really very satisfactory that we had to find out ourselves. It would have been appropriate (and expected) that a Plex team member would have alerted us to the fix via a post here. The level of support provided by Plex team members is, at times, extremely poor.
I did end up using a 30 day free trial of IceTV (as suggested by @TrialMaster) out of sheer frustration. However, I notice that the IceTV guide data downloads in less that 10 seconds while the GraceNote data takes a ridiculous amount of time (over an hour). I have a 50Mbps connection… What’s with that?
Can anyone tell me if the quality of the native(Gracenote) guide info is comparable to the iceTv…? I’ve been a user of IceTV forever, but not happy to pay “double” subscription…?
Having used both I actually found that IceTV constantly had issues (like inconsistent naming, spelling mistakes). The free trial subscription also overwrote the default thumbnails with IceTV specific images which were extremely annoying. As long as Gracenote is reliable going forward, I much prefer it to IceTV.
OK… so now that all Australian Plex DVR users have had to switch to IceTV, how do we stop the thumbnails for recordings being set to the IceTV logo and background? This was not happening when we were using Gracenote provided guide data.
I’m not sure about the guide, but once it’s added to your library, you should be able to fix the match if it’s incorrect in order to get the correct artwork from TVDB/TMDB.
No… it does not work that way. You are assuming that the recorded content I am referring to is a movie of TV series. Think News, Sporting events etc. etc. All of this content used to have its own thumbnail which Plex generated from a frame grab of the content. This no longer happens.
If it’s a series (of news or sports), then the poster for the series will probably still have the IceTV logo, however, the individual airings should create a thumbnail based on the recording. That’s what’s happening in my library in 1.16.0, at least.
What I am trying to get through to you is that previously under the Gracenote provided guide there was NEVER a thumbnail created which was not taken from the content itself. Do you understand what I am saying here? All thumbnails REGARDLESS of content for ALL dvr recordings are using an IceTV logo and background image. I am not sure how else to explain this to you.
I live in the UK and have lost my DVR- it is not updating, guide does not refresh and all Channels are showing “Unknown Airings”, etc. Problems started about a week ago and has got worse. What is going on please?!!
All my recordings show as being recorded on Jan. 1, 2019. Wife is not happy. Seems like it is time to move away from Plex. It just keeps getting worse.
