I absolutely love PLEX showing actor credits across libraries and have been waiting for it a long time. It’s causing some challenges though because I collect a lot of short-lived TV series and many of them no longer show among an actor’s credits because PLEX doesn’t have the shows in its database. How can we get this issue resolved? The shows are on TMDB and TTVDB, both of which supply the information for Plex, but they aren’t listed among the actor credits anywhere on PLEX itself (so refreshing the metadata doesn’t help).
Here are a couple examples for Jean Smart alone, but there are dozens for other actors:
Series like this all used to show up when I clicked the actor image because it searched my library for the actor, but now it goes strictly by the PLEX filmography which doesn’t show these series for ANY of the cast. So many of these short-lived series simply aren’t in PLEX for any actor filmography. So how do we get them added?
If I go to High Society (1995) - Plex the show is there with the correct cast, but it doesn’t exist if you try to use the search bar to find it (I found it with a specific google search). Every show that is missing from the cast filmography has so far been missing in a search as well.
Here’s another weird example where the show IS on PLEX, but it’s still not listed in the actor’s filmography.
Dixie Carter is top billed in the cast, but click on her directly from the show’s cast and look at her filmography. Filthy Rich is not there (the show doesn’t exist for any of the cast).
Between the above examples and this one, maybe they can figure out the issue.
Has anyone had any luck figuring this out? I just want to know how I can help fix this problem. I’m willing to be part of the solution, but there needs to be a solution.
There are shows on Plex (if you google search PLEX, the show name and year for direct links) but they don’t show up in searches using the search bar (on the web app) or on any filmography for any actor involved. If it IS an issue of no rating, how do we get ratings attached?
I have accounts on TMDB, TTVDB, and IMDB. Tell me how to help fix this if there is something missing from these shows.
My library includes 1500+ TV shows, with many short-lived shows that are still not showing up on actor credit pages. Finding them by actor has always been the best route since not every show is well known enough to look for it directly. There has to be a way to flag these shows properly.
The issue is they are unrated. The reason for it is because we were being extra careful about unrated porn getting through. There is back end work going on to make things better but sorry i can’t provide an ETA
Got it. That makes it sound like this could go on not working properly indefinitely (or at least months or years, if ever). As someone with a level of OCD, not only does this not sit well with me, I would HOPE that it wouldn’t sit well with you guys either. I know if I was part of the PLEX team I’d work night and day to fix anything this blatant, but I’m a very detailed person. I spent months setting up PLEX to work for me, and although I love this new feature, I would rather it pulled the info from my libraries only to make it accurate. I couldn’t care less about stuff available on the plex server if I can’t even see the things in my own library.
So where is the rating being pulled from? IMDB? TMDB? Is this something users can update in those sites? Most of the shows in question are network shows like 80s and 90s sitcoms, so the rating would be consistent with other similar shows if IMDB allows those to be updated.
It’s still an issue with Plex overall, but updating those things could only help right? I’m not sure how often Plex scans them.
I wasn’t suggesting made-up ratings. But I can report the ratings as missing.
I guess I’m having trouble with the idea that I’m stuck with this feature being ineffective for me, and worse, a downgrade. I’m all about being proactive and doing my part, but I’m hearing that I’m supposed to live with it.
Don’t get me wrong because I appreciate the responses, but I don’t see the value in filtering porn over correct databases. I mean, if someone wants to put porn in their library, that’s on them. Or they can click something as adult to include porn titles in their search. Filtering out 100s of actual network shows makes no sense.
I don’t want this topic to close by itself before there is a solution. Is there any sort of progress on this? I have dozens of short-lived shows that fall into this category, so I’m hoping for a resolution that will eventually allow them to appear under actor credits as they should.
