Not sure when you guys fixed this, but I just found today that the “Other” category is now working correctly as a local extra type for TV series. It previously did not function, and I had been having to categorize my Creditless Opening/Ending files as “Scenes” in order to get them to appear on my shows. I just got through renaming like two dozen “Scenes” folders I’d created previously and refreshing metadata to get the changes picked up.
Since you’re getting a lot of flack over the new Plex clients I just thought I’d post this to thank you for fixing that server bug, because someone did notice you fixed it.
Plex appears to look for key terms in a file name to display the name of an Extra. Ex-1: File name is “[grpname] Show Title - NCEDv2 (format info) [CRC32].mkv” → Plex displays just “NCED” on the show’s page (the MKV file metadata listed the ‘Movie Name’ field as just “Show Title - ED”). Note: “Creditless” is another term that will display. This can result in an unwanted display name depending on how the file name formatting is. Ex-2: The Extra file is named “Season 1 OP - International Version.mkv” → Plex displays only “OP” on the show preplay page. If the extra does not contain any of these key terms Plex will just display the full file name (but not a suffix used to categorize the Extra like “-trailer”).
I wish they could simply move that pattern to the end of the local-extra detection routine – if a file isn’t named / organized as a regular local extra, test if it might be an opening/ending and tag it as such. Leave all the regular extra types untouched.
I also wouldn’t mind making openings/endings regular extra types… just as long as the above remains true (and my extra titles aren’t reduced to a 20-item list all named Opening )
Jellyfin will often auto-name the extra for display by the filename, hiding the suffix used to categorize but also skipping info in square brackets. Ex: “[GrpName] Mobile Suit Gundam - Creditless ED [CRC32].mkv” is named “Mobile Suit Gundam - Creditless ED” for display. But you can also edit metadata on extras, like any episode or movie file, to rename them.
Simply adding a metadata editing function for extras in Plex would solve all this (plus you could upload a thumbnail for the extra then, instead of getting a black screen or other bad frame like you can now).
Edit: Regarding having a “20-item list all named Opening”, Plex is smart enough to strip the “v_” from the filename but can still recognize when there are multiple or alternate versions of an OP/ED:
