TV show episode names stored locally

Is it possible for Plex to read the name of an episode of a TV show from the local file structure? For instance from the name of the file or from a local text file where I specify the episode name for a certain file?

I tried using this file name format “TV show - s00e63 - episode name” but it just ignores the episode name part.

I would mainly like to use this for extra material that thetvdb doesn’t know about. I know I can change this in the Plex GUI but it would be more portable if it was in the file structure itself.

Plex doesn’t read the episode name.

We pull it from TheTVDB just like FileBot or the other renaming tools would.

The only way right now is to

  1. use mp4 / m4v files
  2. embed the episode titles into the Title meta tag of your files

The tv show agent is currently being rewritten, anyway. Reading episode titles from filenames is one of the things we are all lobbying for.
