The support page about Local Media Assets for TV Shows (https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220717-Local-Media-Assets-TV-Shows) doesn't mention behind the scenes videos and the like. Are they supported in the same way as for Movies? If not, I think they should be. And if so, please add that to the TV Show page.
No, not a supported feature for tv shows. There is a request for this somewhere.
You can just mark them as a different type of "extra" and they will show up.

TV Shows do not support "extras", unless I have missed something. Are you able to have local extras?

Let me clarify a bit. You cannot get "extras" to show up like they do for movies, but you can still add them manually to your show by using an episode that is not actually a broadcast episode and listed in TheTVDB. For example season 1 of a show has 10 episodes. You have an outtake "extra" for episode #6. You can take this file, name it like other episode, but name it 106. Episode 106 will get added to your season folder. There will be no metadata but you can add that manually.
Yes and to add to what MovieFan already said you can create a SPECIALS or SEASON 00 folder also to put this content in:
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220707-Naming-TV-Show-Specials-
But it's not the same as with movies unfortunately.
I just posted a new topic about this. Didn't see this one in time.
I've been tinkering around with unaired dvd extras for TV, specifically from the Friends and Psych DVD's.
I've managed to get plex to add these files using the Season 00 folder.
The trick is to use the naming convention, s00eXX, that doesn't exist.
For example, "Friends s00e99 - Behind the Style The Look of Friends"
Since there is no episode 99 in TheTVDB, Plex simply adds it as Episode 99 but it keeps it in the "Specials" category.
Then its just a matter of using the edit feature to rename the title within plex.
Seems to be working perfectly for me.
Hope this helps.
I also occasionally override the entire Specials episode list. To replace a list of broadcast specials with un-aired DVD extras, go ahead and let the scanner misidentify S00E01, S00E02, etc. Then, manually override titles, descriptions, air-dates, etc. (don't forget the poster!), and lock down all the changes.
For example, scan in S00E01 - Gag Reel [S1].mkv and S00E02 - Gag Reel [S2].mkv and let the agents think what they want for the moment. Manually edit the PMS titles to something like "S1 Gag Reel" and "S2 Gag Reel," change the descriptions, empty out any erroneous information, lock all the fields ... and save changes. A lot of work, but the upside is that you can organize things any way you wish (e.g., above, listing all the gag reels first, regardless of season).
In other cases, I've hijacked some of the Special episodes, and left others to scan in according to TVDB...
I can't get this work -- I've tried adding extras within a season folder with fake episode numbers (e.g., Friends - S08E101 - Extra) and tried adding to a Season 00 folder (e.g., Season 00 / Friends - S00E801) . . . . But when I scan my TV files with Plex, it only picks up the "real" episodes and no extras.
What am I doing wrong? It's driving me crazy.
I should note I'm not actually trying this with Friends... I'm doing some more obscure shows that don't have existing Specials on TVDb that could be causing conflicts / can't be fake-matched against.
Ahhh I figured it out. I'd also put the Plex tags for extras at the end of the file names (like -interview, -deleted, etc.) -- just in case Plex strarted later supporting these naming conventions for TV show DVD extras in the future like the currently do for movie extras.... But my attempt to future-proof the file names was actually what was keeping them from getting imported. When I removed the -extra info from the end of the file names they all scanned in.
I also would like to see support for extras in TV Shows that work just like extras do for Movies. The support that exists in TheTVDB is not what I'm looking for. To me, TheTVDB specials are just what they are labeled, "TV Specials". What I want to add to my collection are the "extras" on the DVD disc. They aren't "specials" they are "extras". There exists a very elegant method for adding extras to movies in Plex, can we have that same method for TV Shows also?
An application like TV Rename will generally give you a list of the "specials" for a given series and the order in which they were aired. It also gives the name. If they are an unaired special but included in the DVD it sometimes gives this information as well. BattleStar Galactica (2003) is a prime example of this, with some of the webisodes and other things included in the list of "specials".
TV rename allows you to find the missing "episode" and will automatically rename it and put it in the proper folder for the series in question. Then PMS actually will title the special with the correct episode name because it's named like this: - S00Exx - name here.
I agree that this functionality could be implemented in Plex, but as it sits now you have to use 3rd party software. I run all my series through TV rename to get a consistent naming convention and to set up or maintain file/folder structure of my media. It's a cludge, but the best cludge we have ATM.
For other specials, things like posters, trailers and such I'm all for this. Commercials for other series could be added as extras too, and could be included at the start of a TV episode just as movie trailers are. Have a check mark to only include the TV shows that are in your collection rather than something completely off the wall. I think the problem for this is going to be availability of the given "extra".
The Season 00 or episode 100 workaround is one crappy workaround. Just shows all your content scattered in a mess under one season. All that is needed is a folder for these extras (but not “extras” because that’s an IGNORE catch for PLEX??? why I don’t know); but some named folder (maybe DVD EXTRAS for example) under each SEASON folder for organization sake that you could dump the files in.
Seinfeld/
…Season 01/
…DVD Extras/
…Seinfeld - DVDXtra - The Stake Out - Inside Look
…Seinfeld - DVDXtra - Not That There’s Anything Wrong With That (Bloopers)
Plex would then simply show the contents of that folder under each season in a section underneath and marked/separated off from the actual episodes; maybe with a line or heading saying DVD Extras under the main season episodes. TVDB is totally useless for these things, so you would have to manually edit the metadata, which isn’t hard.
