TV Show that was a mini-series and a regular seris

I’m having an issue with Plex processing a correct match…

The show is V — it has several different entries in the TVDB. The show started in 1983 with The Original Mini-series (two episode mini-series). Then in 1984 a sequel was presented with 3 episodes (V - The Final Battle). Then later in 1984 an actual TV series was created (19 episodes). Then a remake of the mini-series was brought out in 2009 for 2 seasons and 22 episodes.

I have the original mini-series (2 episodes in 1983) and the sequel (3 episodes in 1984). I have a working TV Shows folder (separate from my movies folder so I know my setup works fine). Under TV Shows I tried many different arrangements. Whenever I use TVDB the results would give the overall TV Show image and description from the 1983 mini-series. Under it were listed 2 “Seasons” - but the image and descriptions of the episodes coincided with the first couple of episodes of the actual 19 episode series.

I switched off of TVDB and went with Movie Database and now the seasons show the proper images from the original mini-series (listed as Season 1) and the final battle (listed as Season 2). But when I click on one of the seasons there are just generic images for the episodes and the episode titles are the original air dates and there is no description provided (though the director is correct) — I assume this happens because of the use of Movie Database rather than TVDB…

So how do I get this work with TVDB so I can get the proper descriptions?

My current folder/file naming is:
TV Shows\V\Specials\V - The Original Mini-Series (1983)\V - The Original Mini-Series (1983) S01E01.mp4

Any advice would be appreciated!

Based on the numbering on theTVDB it would be like this for Plex:

TV Shows/
…V/
…Specials/
…V - S00E01 - The Original Mini-Series (1).ext
…V - S00E02 - The Original Mini-Series (2).ext
…V - S00E03 - The Final Battle (1).ext
…V - S00E04 - The Final Battle (2).ext
…V - S00E05 - The Final Battle (3).ext
…Season 01/
…V - S01E01 - Liberation Day.ext
etc

Thank you, that basically works - it places all 5 videos under a “Specials” season even though there are two different mini-series, but the description and images and posters are available and it appears to be working as described in TVDB.

So the issue i have is i have let say FIst of the North Star and New Fist of the North Star Plex put both in the Fist of the North Star file and have the show read double. I tried to put the in two different folder and title different.

Check the TVDB as Plex uses that to match TV Shows. I believe the new episodes are listed as specials of the first series. http://thetvdb.com/?tab=season&seriesid=79156&seasonid=26601&lid=7
