TV shows disappear when adding a new show / library scan

This one has me stumped. Server has been up for several years and recently I have started seeing the behavior of when I add a TV show, all the shows disappear. It was suggested to turn off empty trash automatically and uncheck allow deletion, but neither worked. Keep in mind that the files are not actually deleted from the source and the source is online, it is a NetApp A200.

I see these messages in the logs.

Any help is very appreciated!

You’ll need to throw in some more details… that log snippet alone isn’t giving all that much information except that your Plex believes some of the files in its database are no longer available.

On what platform are you running your Plex Media Server and what’s the version you’ve installed?
What agent/scanner are you actually using for that library of yours?
Full server logs might shed some more light on what’s happening…

As a side note:
Disabling automatically emptying the trash after a scan should prevent Plex from deleting library items if they can no longer be found during a scan.
Disabling the option to delete items has nothing to do with that… it’s only about offering an option in the Plex apps to delete files straight from there (not just library items).

Hey Tom, thanks for your response. It is running on Windows Server 2019 and the Plex version is 1.32.7.7484-337c79318, I try to keep it up to date as best I can.

I will attach the logs for sure.

As for the Agents/Scanner for Shows…Let me know if this is not what you are looking for.

Looking at those logs of yours I’d start to clean-up the file names to meet Plex’ naming schema ahead of other troubleshooting steps.

e.g.

  • season folders should simply be named Season XX where XX is the season number (not Little.House.On.The.Prairie.S07.DVDRip.XviD-IPT)
  • Plex prefers the episode files to contain a sXXeYY pattern to specify a file’s season/episode assignment – while Plex should also be able to recognize XxYY patterns (e.g. 7x09), it’s due to fail for your multi-episode file schemas like 7x01-02 or 7x10&7x11

While Plex might have added those files at some point, these little deviations can have a big impact.
