I’ve tried going through old threads for this issue but can’t seem to pinpoint an actual fix anywhere. It always ends with the thread getting locked due to inactivity without resolution.
Experiencing a recurring issue where TV episodes are ending approximately a minute or two before the actual end of the file. A playback error is shown on the screen and the Plex app becomes unusable until you exit and go back into it. When you do that, the episode shows as watched. If you try to go back to the episode you were watching and fast forward to the end, you still get the same playback error and have to close out of Plex.
This seems to only happen with x265 encodes. I am going to try with an x264 encode tonight and see how it goes.
This is only happening on our Samsung smart TV. I have Roku devices (all Roku Premier) and a few Roku TVs that this is not happening on.
Is there an actual fix for this or is this going to continue to be an ongoing bug?
Looks like this is something relating to a specific encoding group. Other x265 encodes work without issue. I’m going to switch to other encodes and see how it goes.
I’ve had this happen with H264 files (namely HotD and LastofUS). Entering the last few minutes of the episodes, it’ll visually glitch and freeze, the audio continues for a bit then, it’ll just display a playback error. While it’s giving the error, the UI isn’t responsive, though hit Back repeatedly on the remote helps to get back to home.
I’ll try and reproduce these. I was using the latest Tizen app.

I’ve forgot to start the logging when I watched the show today, but I went and tried to reproduce it afterwards. The glitching did happen the initial viewing, but then doesn’t the second viewing when I tried to fast-forward towards the end hoping to catch it. Timeline:
Turned verbose client logging on
Navigate to Recently Added in TV Shows row, select LastofUs episode
Starts playing > Fast Forward to 5:30 remaining.
It doesn’t play, frozen video. UI is fine. Rewind back 10-20s, still frozen.
Return to Home, start playing episode again, plays this time, at 5:30 left or so
All good, until like just after plot end/credits start, “buffering” for some reason (it’s all local direct play), then “Unexpected Playback Error”. UI frozen but could move around my Pins.
Had to hit Home for tv app menu, go to another app, then reopen Plex app.
I’ll try to remember to start the logging before I start the next episode, assuming it’ll happen again. Maybe it’s something with the actual file?
